On the article New Walmart Grocer Proposed in South County

ReplyI've done a lot of grocery runs at my Super Walmart--it's nice to get everything you need, from fishing lures and paint to milk and frozen pizza--in one trip. HOWEVER, I will say that sometimes the produce section is a little off and I don't like buying fresh meat that was pre-packaged outside of the store. Oddly enough, the deli is pretty darn good. Trader Joe's and Whole Foods are for trendy organic folk. Walmart is good for can goods, stuff in a box, frozen food shopping. I wouldn't even compare it to Target which, despite it's size, is still pretty bare bones. Target is good for the times when you're shopping for your normal Target stuff and want to get something for dinner too. And their check out people are always overwhelmed by a full cart of groceries.

ReplyThe location for this store is no where near Johnny's or the old Sappington Market. Isn't it also pretty close to a Dierbergs?

ReplyThat whole plaza was half dead anyway, this is no surprise. Even McDonalds moved away. The only decent business there is the Pasta House. Kmart has been a ghost town for years...shopping there was almost creepy when I would drop by. Walmart just finished it off.

ReplyI went into Savers and its a nice store with friendly staff. Very clean and well organized. I don't think Crestwood has the market cornered on thrift stores. But Crestwood needs to let that mall get redeveloped.

On the article Rockwood School District's $38.4M Proposition S Results

ReplySam: It was a fraction of the voting community who decided this bond issue, one way or the other. Patch says there were 116,321 residents in the district as of 2011. Subtract 23,000 school kids and you have 93,321 people. We need to subtract a few more to account for kids under school age...lets just pick a number and say 5,000 more of those residents are also children. So I'm going to roughly guess that 88,000 voters live in the district. About 20% of the voters--using my estimate--got out to vote. That means about 10% of the voters in our district voted down the bond issue and maybe 9% voted for it. Yes, that's a fraction. About 80% of the voters didn't give a rat's rump and didn't vote at all.
I'm not too terribly worried about my kids future just yet. I know you can get a good education without fancy computers, a nice cafeteria or even locks on the doors. I just hope that with Borchers gone we can stop the drama.

ReplyI think it's sad that a fraction of the voting community was able to sink this bond issue. There are around 23,000 students in Rockwood. If each kid had a relative that bothered to stop at the polls and vote in favor of the NO TAX bond issue, it would have passed. On behalf of my 5 year old son and RSMS 8th grader, I thank your stingy and spiteful little hearts.

I wouldn't compare a prank with sidewalk chalk and vandals with paint. Sidewalk chalk can be hosed off without any harm done to the propery. I do hope they have video and catch the little punks.
