Taylor Baur leads the way with 16; Rams win 23rd game of the year, 52-14.
When a team has quarters of 2, 5, 3 and 4, they hardly can expect to win a game. Unfortunately, that was the fate of Villa Duchesne in the semifinals of the Class 4, District 6 basketball playoffs at Clayton. MICDS polished off the Saints easily, 52-14 in another clock-shortened finish. MICDS improved its record to 23-2, and meets the winner of Westminster Christian Academy/Visitation Academy for the championship game Thursday at 6 p.m. The game was a look ahead to the future of Rams basketball. Freshman Taylor Baur had 16 points to lead all scorers. Though 8 players scored for MICDS, no one else was in double figures. Young Bombers tested the Saints in spurts during the match.
Villa’s volleyball coach Shane Weber is showing his team the beef. He purposely gave the Saints a rugged schedule this year to prep for a difficult playoff season. One year ago, the Saints celebrated their first state Class 3 volleyball title at the Show Me Center on the campus of Southeast Missouri State over Thanksgiving. There’s no resting on their laurels for this team. See more pictures on the Ladue-Frontenac Facebook Page. The Saints made fairly quick work of host John Burroughs Thursday night, sending the Bombers out the door to do home work, 25-14 and 25-13. Winners will be selected from either Ladue, MICDS, John Burroughs, St. Joe or Villa.
For the next nine month, the Ladue-Frontenac and Olivette Patches will be selecting the “Athlete of the Week.” This is how it works This contest belong to you, the reader. You get the opportunity to both nominate and vote for your favorite athletes. We started this last spring and a number of athletes were able to get the recognition they deserved. On Mondays, we will call for nominees. Any athlete, male or female from Ladue Horton Watkins, John Burroughs, MICDS, St. Joseph’s Academy or Villa Duchesne can be nominated. Names that get nominated the most on Monday and Tuesday will comprise the Wednesday morning ballot. Voting begins Wednesday morning and concludes promptly at 5 p.m. on Thursday.
