Westminster Gets Its Revenge, Ends MICDS' Win Streak At 11

Rams won MICDS Holiday Tournament championship game over Wildcats back in December, but Westminster returned the favor with a strong performance Friday night.

TOWN AND COUNTRY -- As the No. 1 seed and defending champion of the MICDS Holiday Tournament, the Westminster Christian Academy girls basketball team was the overwhelming favorite to win the event again this season. But the third-seeded hosts from MICDS had different plans, and pulled off one of the great surprises of the season by upsetting Westminster to win their own tournament for the first time. That victory happened to be the Rams' eighth in a row, and helped spark them on to three more, for an 11-game winning streak heading into Friday's rematch with the Wildcats at the WCA Gym. This time though, it was Westminster that made the big plays down the stretch of another tight ballgame, and earned itself a hard-fought 58-56 revenge …

MICDS Girls Drop the Hammer on Ladue, Winning Handily, 67-35

MICDS Rams spurt out to 19-0 start of game, and were never headed.

When Ladue’s 6-foot-3 senior center Taylor Robinson makes up her mind to go to the hole, there is probably not a defender on this planet who can stop her. Unfortunately for the Ladue Rams, Robinson just gained her second-half eligibility and is battling to get back into shape and into the starting lineup. Robinson started the game on the bench as the host MICDS Rams fired up a full court suffocating defense and a spirited running game to build a 19-0 lead. By the time Robinson got into the game (4:50 in the first quarter), all Ladue’s coaches could do was sit and watch. “When they build a 19-0 lead, our entire game plan was completely out the window. At that point, it’s just survival time,” said Ladue’s coach Cord Dockery who could only …

MICDS Girls Win Foul-Fest Opener Over Cardinal Ritter

Junior Josie Cusworth scored a game-high 17 points, and freshman Rachel Thompson added 12 points, as Rams raced past Ritter for 52-30 victory.

The MICDS girls basketball team opened its 2012-2013 season Tuesday night at the McDonnell Gymnasium, with a performance that was both beautiful and downright ugly. On the positive side, the Rams played magnificent defense, owned the rebounding edge by a wide margin, and held visiting Cardinal Ritter to just 30 points, in a 52-30 victory. On the ugly side, MICDS had an atrocious night shooting free throws, as the Rams went to the line a whopping 56 times, but made only 26 of them (46 percent). Fortunately, the rough night at the foul line didn't come back to bite the Rams, who held Cardinal Ritter to just 10 points in the first half, and 17 points through three quarters, with a truly dominant performance on the defensive end. Junior Josie …

Rachel Thompson Wins Summer Golf Tournament

The recent St. Joseph's Academy graduate wins the Accelerated Tour event at Aberdeen on June 22-23.

The Accelerated Golf Tour is a new summer avenue for area collegiate and advanced high school golfers. The tour consists of 10 36-hole tournaments played on some of the premier facilities in the St. Louis area. Rachel Thompson played in her first Accelerated Golf Tour event June 22-23. The recent St. Joseph's Academy graduate won the graduate women's division in the tournament which was played at Aberdeen Golf Course in Eureka. There were only a handful of players in her division and Thompson won with identical scores of 85. "Those are certainly not the best scores I have ever shot," Thompson said. "But it is hard to go low in the conditions we played. The wind was blowing about 30 miles per hour both days. "I don't necessarily like to …
