Cake, Pancakes, Quiche and More: Passover Recipes Are Mouth Watering

Whether you observe Passover or simply like to try new foods, Creve Coeur & Ladue-Frontenac Patches has you covered in the kitchen.

Passover is a major Jewish holiday and festival that commemorates the Exodus from Egypt more than 3,000 years ago. The eight-day observance, which begins this year on the evening of April 18, centers on a service and meal held in the home. The rituals include readings, prayers, songs and special foods. During the week of Passover, Jews adhere to the prohibition of eating leavened foods and grains, which include breads and legumes, to commemorate the haste with which they left Egypt. When Pharaoh finally said the Israelites were free from slavery and could leave Egypt, they did not have time to wait for their loaves of bread to rise. The unleavened bread of matzoh symbolizes this quick departure. Since it can be a challenge to create meals …

St. Patrick’s Day Celebrations Come to Ladue-Frontenac

Patch Picks: While not necessarily known as the center of St. Patrick’s Day festivities, Ladue and Frontenac do have a few restaurants and bars that are “rolling out the green carpet.”

According to Carl Winters, co-owner of Molly Darcys, corned beef and cabbage is not an authentic dish from Ireland.  “Corned beef and cabbage isn’t known in Ireland. It really started in America when the Irish were living in a community in Lower Manhattan. They were tied to the Italian and Jewish communities so when they couldn’t get their Irish ham, they used Jewish corned beef.” Nevertheless, if you have a craving for this customary dish you will have no problem finding it today along with other traditional Irish dishes. Patch Picks found three restaurants in Ladue-Frontenac and two in Clayton that are celebrating St. Patrick’s Day. Lester’s Sports Bar & Grill, 9906 Clayton Rd., Ladue, (314) 994-0055 Food Specials: Corned beef, cabbage …
