Westminster Gets Its Revenge, Ends MICDS' Win Streak At 11

Rams won MICDS Holiday Tournament championship game over Wildcats back in December, but Westminster returned the favor with a strong performance Friday night.

TOWN AND COUNTRY -- As the No. 1 seed and defending champion of the MICDS Holiday Tournament, the Westminster Christian Academy girls basketball team was the overwhelming favorite to win the event again this season. But the third-seeded hosts from MICDS had different plans, and pulled off one of the great surprises of the season by upsetting Westminster to win their own tournament for the first time. That victory happened to be the Rams' eighth in a row, and helped spark them on to three more, for an 11-game winning streak heading into Friday's rematch with the Wildcats at the WCA Gym. This time though, it was Westminster that made the big plays down the stretch of another tight ballgame, and earned itself a hard-fought 58-56 revenge …

MICDS Girls Clobber Clayton In First Round Holiday Tournament Action

Rams rattle 'Hounds with tough full-court pressure defense, and cruise to big win in opening round of the MICDS Girls Holiday Tournament.

If MICDS girls basketball coach Scott Small could've guessed beforehand how well his Rams would play in their first round game at the MICDS Holiday Tournament against Clayton High on Friday, he couldn't have dreamed of a better performance. The Rams, who hadn't done anything but practice all week, looked like a well-oiled machine Friday night against the Greyhounds at the McDonnell Gymnasium. And they looked especially fantastic on defense, where their relentless full-court pressure caused all kinds of problems for Clayton, and led MICDS to a dynamic 66-15 victory over the 'Hounds. "You know we have to give Clayton credit for that," Small said. "We played them over at their place, a week and a half ago, and it was a seven-point game at …

Defense Keys MICDS Girls Win over John Burroughs

The Rams limit the Bombers to five first half points in a 44-24 win Friday night at MICDS.

MICDS sophomore Emily Kyman has been the model of consistency for the Rams in the 2011-12 season. The guard has scored in double figures in all but two games, including games of 22 and 18 points. She had four 3-pointers in one game. Kyman was limited to just a single point Friday night against John Burroughs. But the rest of the Rams responded to the rare off game by Kyman as they defeated the Bombers 44-24 in the Coaches vs. Cancer Paint It Pink game. "I lot of times a team will struggle when your best player has an off night," MICDS coach Scott Small said. "We really struggled shooting the ball overall tonight. I think it says something about the other parts of our game when you can still beat a rivalry team by 20 points." And that other…

MICDS Girls Off to Another Fast Start

The Rams improve to 4-0 with a convincing 49-29 victory over Clayton Tuesday at MICDS.

The MICDS girls basketball team won their first 14 games of the 2010-11 season. The Rams, who have several players returning from that team, are once again off to a hot start. They improved to 4-0 Tuesday night with a 49-29 win over Clayton at MICDS. MICDS is without leading scorer Delaney Hobbs but the Rams return three starters in Campbell Torchin, Emily Kyman and Cameron Jackson. They are joined by experienced varsity players Josie Cusworth and Caroline Militello as well as talented freshmen Maya Howard and Courtney Kaplan. "We are not a big team but we have some experience and some skill," MICDS coach Scott Small said. "And I like what I have seen so far with the chemistry. These girls get along well together and they are very …
