Frontenac school has dominated the local golf scene a number of years recently.

Saints edged out by Westminster Christian Academy in New Bloomfield, MO.
Villa Duchesne, always one of the strongest golf teams in the state of Missouri captured second place in this year’s championships at the Lake Acres Country Club in New Bloomfield, MO. Westminster captured the title with 669 points; second went to Villa with 721 points (low poinr total wins). Morgan Gast paced the Saints with a two day total of 170; 87 and 83 in the two rounds of competition. Emily Cataldi, Morgan Gast, and Grace Mower all figured in the top scoring. Other local area results came from local schools: Abigail Schroeder, 163; : Logan Otter, Burroughs, 165; Drew Bolster, Burroughs, 177; and Darby Hobbs, MICDS 185. Congratulations to the Villa Duchesne Saints golf team.

Villa Duchesne Coach Linda Potter has received the 2011 Coach of the Year Award for her contribution to girls’ golf in Missouri. She was recognized in January by the Coaches Association for the National Federation of State High School Associations. In her coaching career at Villa Duchesne, Coach Potter has taken the golf team to the state championship 15 years in a row, winning first place in 1999 and 2010. Coach Potter was first awarded Coach of the Year in 2000. Information was provided by the Communications Department at Villa Duchesne.

Saints only one of eight final teams to improve scores on final day.
A year ago, the Villa Duchesne golf team captured the state title. This year, they brought home the third-place plaque from the Silo Ridge Golf and Country Club in Bolivar, MO. Linda Potter, their coach pointed to the improvement of the entire squad. "It was a thrill to do that," she told Greg Uptain of STL.Today. The team trophy went to the girls of Westminster Christian Academy. Westminster went undefeated for the year, firing off a low of 340 in the second round of play in Southwest Missouri. Junior Brooke Cusumano fired rounds of 80 and 84 for a two stroke victory over Megan Keck of Cole Camp for the individual title. The Saints will compete in the Class 1 District 1 Tournament Wednesday at the Landings at Spirit Golf Club.
The Villa Duchesne golf team finished third in district play last fall. That is usually the kiss of death as only the top two teams from districts advance to sectional competition. But the top 15 individuals from the non-sectional qualifying teams also move on to sectional and the Saints had enough golfters do so to also qualify as a team. And the Saints made the most of it the rest of the way, culminating in a Class 1 state title. This year's Class 1 District 1 Tournament will be played Wednesday at the Landings at Spirit Golf Club in Chesterfield. Last year's district tournament was one of the most competitive in memory as MICDS and Westminster Christian tied for first with a score of 348 with Villa Duchesne just a stroke behind at 349. …
