MICDS Athletic Department Wins National Award For Off-The-Field Achievements

Athletic director Don Maurer, Head of School Lisa Lyle, and Head of Upper School Scott Small accepted the Interscholastic Sports Program of Excellence award on Tuesday, which named MICDS one of the four best athletic departments in the nation.

Athletic director Don Maurer, his staff, and colleagues at MICDS were honored on Tuesday, after receiving the nationally-coveted, Interscholastic Sports Program of Excellence award from Coach and Athletic Director magazine. The national publication, which serves more than 28,000 top coaching and athletic director decision-makers, awarded just four programs with its top honor, and decided MICDS was the best among those in the private school with enrollment over 500 category, due to the school's outstanding off-the-field achievements in its athletics department. “Don Maurer has created an atmosphere unlike any other that encourages the intellectual growth of both student-athletes and coaches,” said Kevin Hoffman, associate editor of Coach …

Local Athletes Prepare for Heat

High school practices for Missouri fall athletes can begin Aug. 8.

There seems to be no end in sight to the current heat wave which has affected most of the country. That could spell some long days for area high school athletes as practices can start Aug. 8 for fall sports. MICDS head trainer Stacey Morgan hopes that Ram players have prepared for what lies ahead. "There are always a percentage of athletes who do not come into practice in shape but those numbers have gone down in recent years," said Morgan, who will begin her 18th year as the head trainer at MICDS. "Some kids these days have personal trainers and a lot go through our strength and condition program."
