Everything Came Up Smelling Roses Saturday at John Burroughs

Soccer team edged Priory 1-0; football won over Clayton 56-0 and field hockey was a 1-0 winner over Clayton too.

Saturday was a day of satisfying victories for the different Burroughs sports teams. The football team demolished Clayton 56-0. Field hockey won over Clayton 1-0 and the soccer team beat the defending state champs 1-0. All of the wins were on the Bombers campus Saturday. Joe Renner fired a 30 yard shot that trickled by Priory goal keeper Tristan Helmuth. Otherwise, Helmuth played a sensational game, turning away a number of strong shots. Up front, the Bombers got strong play from Ty Trezecki, Stephen McMillian and Ryan Keeney. They kept the pressure up in a game, dominated by strong midfield play. Burroughs is 10-4-1. Priory, who won all 26 games and the state title last year are 8-11 this time around. Here's action from the game in the …

Burroughs Swimming: Undefeated in Duel Meets This Season

This could prove to be the best Bombers swim team in a lengthy history. Bombers splash past rivals MICDS 103-71.

One of the John Burroughs swim parents has been running all the numbers while pouring over spreadsheets lately. By his calculation of comparison times, the Bombers’ swim team ought to finish somewhere from 5th to 8th place in the state swim championships in November. Now those are lofty goals. The field is comprised of loaded talent from powerhouse swim programs at Lafayette, Parkway Central, SLUH, Rockhurst, Blue Springs and others. No worries for the Bombers. They knocked off bigger Chaminade this week and followed up with a 103-73 win over rival MICDS late Friday. The Bombers are unblemished at 8-0-1 in duels this year. The pride of JBS are junior Kevin Steinhouse (Patch’s Week 7 MVP) and his sidekick and good friend senior Adam …

He broke down the defense and rambled 65 yards, 10 seconds later and with the extra point, the game was tied at 7. Burroughs notched 33 unanswered points and the Bombers dominated the scoreboard for a convincing 33-7 win on the Wildcats synthetic turf. Burroughs is 6-0, Westminster falls to 4-2. Bon Fire, Road Race Sets the Stage for Burroughs Football at MICDS Later Today

Community run winds through the streets of Ladue from Burroughs to MICDS this morning.

FOURTH UPDATE: Saturday, 10:00 a.m. Hundreds of runners were off at 8 a.m. John Burroughs to MICDS. Burroughs' Margaret Bahe just added several great photos of the start of the race. Dave Nowak of MICDS completed the race coverage with photos of the winners. MICDS faculty member Paul Reineke was first to cross the finish line of the 2.5 miles race, followed closely by Dan Moisio, MICDS class of 2003. Some 237 runners took advantage of perfect fall weather to run down Price Road, up Ladue Road and then finish on Warson Road at the entrance of MICDS. The Birchfield Family (Blake and Kathy Birchfield of Ladue and their five children) won the "most spirited" award - seven family members participated and all crossed the finish line. They …

Villa Beats John Burroughs in Volleyball in Two Quick Sets

Young Bombers tested the Saints in spurts during the match.

Villa’s volleyball coach Shane Weber is showing his team the beef. He purposely gave the Saints a rugged schedule this year to prep for a difficult playoff season. One year ago, the Saints celebrated their first state Class 3 volleyball title at the Show Me Center on the campus of Southeast Missouri State over Thanksgiving. There’s no resting on their laurels for this team. See more pictures on the Ladue-Frontenac Facebook Page. The Saints made fairly quick work of host John Burroughs Thursday night, sending the Bombers out the door to do home work, 25-14 and 25-13. For the record, Casie Tomlinson’s youngish Bombers put up a spirited opposition. More on that later. But that front line, comprised of Meghan Donovan, Marisa Drevenak, Maggie …

Burroughs and MICDS Clash For Football Bragging Rights Saturday

Burroughs is 4-0 coming into the game; MICDS is struggling at 1-3.

Want to wave a red flag in front of the Burroughs Bombers. Just print it with last year’s football score against MICDS: “45-20.” The Bombers need no further motivation. But last year’s MICDS star power has pretty much scattered. Michael Scherer is at Mizzou; Thomas Miltello at Dartmouth and Jack Howell at Brown. On the flip side, Burroughs is giddy over the prospects of Ezekiel Elliott shredding the Rams defense Saturday, kickoff 2 p.m. on the Rams home turf. Coach Gus Frerotte knows better. He has his Bombers looking at this game with the greatest of caution. He knows so much is riding on this bitter rivalry. Burroughs is 4-0; having steam rolled Cape Girardeau Central, Lutheran South, Priory and Lutheran North. MICDS has struggled out …

Lutheran North, No Match for Burroughs. Crusaders Fall 56-14

Bombers continue to dominate area schools enroute to MICDS showdown Saturday.

So how do you slow down Ezekiel Elliott on a football field? Maybe tell him he cannot play in the game. Or assign about six or seven tacklers. Or just give up. Elliott has dominated the turf of the John Burroughs football field in a 4-0 season. Coach Gus Frerotte, his favorite fan couldn’t be happier. Elliott rushed for TDs of 62, 29, 7, and 76 and returned a 56 yard punt as the Bombers prepped for their showdown with MICDS running all over hapless Lutheran North 56-14. It was 49-0 at half and the game ended with a running clock. Also, Andrew Barnett hauled in a 14 yard strike from quarterback Nick Duncan and Foye Oluokun, the area’s premier returned a kick off 76 yards and reserve back Gregg Booker scored on a 55 yard run. Justin Baker …

Ezekiel Elliott scores 5 more TDs; more coverage Monday on Patch.

Burroughs flexed its muscles once more, and romped over visiting Lutheran North 56-14 Saturday afternoon. The game was shortened in the fourth quarter by a running clock. With that, the Bombers are a perfect 4-0. Ezekiel Elliott put on another dazzling show, scoring 5 TDs in the route. Now it’s on to the showcase game with MICDS. The two titans will clash Saturday, 2 p.m. on the Rams home field. Come back Monday for interviews with the coach and players and photos too.
