John Burroughs Loses Another Heart-Breaker at the Show-Me Bowl Championships

The Bombers fell to Logan-Rogersville 21-14 Saturday in the Class 3 state championship game at the Edward Jones Dome.

It was the Nightmare on North Broadway the Sequel for the John Burroughs football team. The Bombers lost in the final seconds of the 2010 Class 3 state championship game to Richmond 21-20 at the Edward Jones Dome. John Burroughs, despite having just eight seniors, earned a trip back to the state title game this fall and the final results were eerily similar. The Bombers had a 14-13 lead until the final two minutes when Wildcat quarterback Evan Gruener scored on a 31-yard run on a quarterback keeper. But the never say die Bombers looked like they were going to make some drama themselves as Davie Holmes hit Peter Schnuck for a 40-yard pass, Foye Oluokun for a 13-yarder and Zeke Elliott for a 12-yarder. The Bombers were on the Logan-…

John Burroughs Plays For State Championship Again

The Bombers will play Logan-Rogersville for the Class 3 title Saturday at 3:15 at the Edward Jones Dome.

The holiday season has started early this year in Rogersville, Mo. The Logan-Rogersville football team has made it to the state championship game for the first time in school history. The Wildcats will play John Burroughs Saturday at 3:15 for the Class 3 championship at the Edward Jones Dome. "The city is extremely excited," Logan-Rogersville coach Doug Smith said. "It is like we are celebrating Christmas early." This is certainly unchartered territory for the school located near Springfield. "Four years ago was the first time we were in the state playoffs," Smith said. "The last three years we have been knocked out by Cassville in the quarterfinals. One of those games was decided by one point and Cassville went on to win state two of …

John Burroughs Going Back to the Dome

The Bombers crush School of the Osage 39-14 in Class 3 semifinals Saturday at John Burroughs.

"The Fun Bunch" might be the proper nickname for the John Burroughs' defense. And it is a bunch which will be making a return trip to the Edward Jones Dome Saturday as the Bomber defense keyed a 39-14 victory over School of the Osage in a Class 3 semifinal Saturday at John Burroughs. "This is a defense which is building momentum the past couple of weeks, especially in the playoffs," Bomber senior linebacker Bear Kaminer said. "And we are doing this against teams which are averaging 47 points a game. A fast defense can be a successful defense in high school and this is a fiery group of guys." The starting defense was dominant against the Indians. Osage scored the first points of the game on special teams and the last points of the game …

Burroughs KO's Ste. Genevieve In Class 3 State Quarterfinals

Bombers Face Unbeaten Osage In Semifinals Next Saturday at home.

Ste. Genevieve...In boxing vernacular, John Burroughs' football game plan was set to knock out host Ste. Genevieve early in the Class 3 Missouri State quarterfinals. The Bombers did so by routing the Dragons, 49-7, on Saturday. The Bombers led by a 42-0 score at halftime, which meant the mercy rule was in effect for the final 24 minutes. John Burroughs (12-1), winner of 10 straight games, which includes defeating Ste. Genevieve twice during the winning streak, hosts Osage (12-0) in the state semifinals at 1:30 p.m. on Nov. 19. Osage routed North Calloway, 63-21, on Saturday to advance to the next round. "To come into a place like this and do that really helps," said Gus Frerotte, John Burroughs' first-year coach. "To come into this place …

Gus Frerotte Takes Over As Bomber Football Coach

The former NFL quarterback inherits a team which made it to the Class 3 championship game last fall.

As a longtime NFL quarterback, Gus Frerotte is aware of the excitement of having an offense which scores 600 points in 15 games. That was the case last season with the John Burroughs' team. That prolific offense helped the Bombers to within one point of the Class 3 state championship. Frerotte, who was the quarterback coach on that team, takes over as the Bomber head coach this fall. "I coached my son's youth team but otherwise this is my first head coaching experience," Frerotte said. "It is really different than being an asssistant but I am excited and I think the kids are as well." Burroughs had a memorable 2010 campaign which finished at 14-1. The Bombers scored 70 points in one game, 50 or more four times and 40 or more three other …
