Thursday Storm Gives Way To Cleanup; Many Schools Cancel Friday Classes

Some areas saw as much as 6 inches of snow, sleet and frozen precipitation.

A Thursday forecast of snow, sleet and other freezing precipitation that largely followed through as predicted will see Missouri Department of Transportation and other municipal street crews working into Friday to get ready for the morning commute. That, along with a National Weather Service forecast that called for additional nighttime snow and sleet accumulation of less than a half inch, has led many school districts, including Parkway, Rockwood and Ft. Zumwalt among many others, to cancel classes Friday. Our news partners at FOX2 have a complete list of school closings. Be Prepared for Thursday's Snow Storm With These Resources and Tips

The St. Louis area is expected to get anywhere from 1-6 inches of snow and freezing rain when a major storm moves through the area Thursday.

With a severe winter storm warning now in effect for all of St. Louis, it's important to be prepared in case of an emergency situation, particularly a loss of power.  Up to 6 inches of snow and freezing rain is expected for the metro area, so here are five resources that can come in handy when the storm hits Thursday morning.  Batteries Plus in St. Louis provided the following recommendations of items for consumers to have on hand in the event of a power outage. Batteries Plus has locations in Creve Coeur, Chesterfield, Ballwin, Florissant, St. Peters, South County and in Fairview Heights, Ill.

MoDOT Warns Use Caution in Evening Rush Hour After Tuesday's Snow

Large snow flakes fell across the St. Louis area Tuesday. MoDOT officials are warning drivers to use caution as they head home Tuesday evening.

The Missouri Department of Transportation said road crews took to the streets around the St. Louis area Tuesday treating roads with salt and chemicals and plowing as needed. MoDOT officials are warning drivers to use caution as they head home Tuesday evening, especially on ramps and bridges.  The National Weather Service reports there could be accumulation of up to one inch of snow in some parts of the St. Louis area Tuesday. Temperatures are expected to reach a high of around 20 degrees and light wind is also in the forecast. According to KMOV.com, several areas received at least a half-inch of accumulation as the narrow band of snow hit St. Louis and St. Charles counties beginning late morning. MoDOT Ready For Rush Hour, More Concerned About Tuesday

MoDOT is now more concerned with Tuesday morning's rush hour than Monday evening, but crews are on the roads and ready.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a winter weather advisory for the St. Louis area that remais in effect until midnight. Meteorologists are forecasting accumulations between 2 and 4 inches for the metro area. According to the NWS, the latest indications are that the heaviest snowfall will occur during the late afternoon and evening hours. Snow with some sleet accumulation is possible, with the storm expected to end late Monday. However, Kara Price, a spokesperson for the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT), tells Patch that crews are now expecting the winter storm to run through Tuesday morning's rush hour.
