Opening game of the American Heart Association Public-Private Showcase at Maryville University Saturday.
The Ladue Rams took care of business in the opening game of the American Heart Association Public-Private Showcase at Maryville University City Saturday. Ladue’s four guards combined for a splendid 39 points and the Rams crushed Whitfield 62-36. Ladue runs its record to 16-4, and winners of 9 of the last 10 in a row. They suffered a disappointing road loss to Normandy earlier this week, 47-41. Ladue’s coach Chad Anderson likes what he sees from his talented guards. “When teams zone us, we’re going to get our shots from our guards. They have the green light to shoot,” said Anderson. As it happened though, Ladue managed to hold off the Warriors, for an entertaining 51-43 victory in the Rams' 2012-2013 hoops season opener. Senior center Taylor Robinson had 19 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Rams, with 10 of her points coming in the first half, as Ladue built a 25-18 halftime edge. In the second half, the …

Turner Miller belts two run homer for non-league victory.
The call by Prepcasts broadcast’ owner and chief announcer Bob Ryan was right on the money. In the home half of the fifth and down 11-2, Whitfield coach Mike Pomatto ordered his pitcher to walk two batters against Ladue and load the bases in a non-league match at the West Ladue campus. Ryan described what came next on his live internet broadcast: “You know, more times than not when one team intentionally walks the bases loaded, the other team almost always wins on a wild pitch.” It was if Ryan owned the Ladue Rams play book. Two pitches later, reliever Garrett Blackwell fired the ball low and wide of the Whitfield catcher and Lex Kaplan streaked home for the 12th run of the game, enough for a mercy-rule five inning game-shortened 12-2 …
