Battle Of The Bigs: Westminster and MICDS In Girls' District Title Game Tonight

Rematch of game won by the Wildcats a year ago in Clayton.

The gauntlet has been thrown down. Once again, MICDS will have a chance to move on in the Class 4 state basketball tournament. And once again, the Westminster Christian Wildcats stand in the way. The two will clash tonight for the girl’s district title at MICDS, tipoff is 6 p.m. Plan to be there early. On February 25, 2011 at Clayton High,Westminster came from behind to win, 56-52 spoiling MICDS’ dreams of a state title. The Rams lost just twice last year, both times to Westminster. The first loss spoiled a 15-game win streak. Westminster won that game at home 47-41. In last year’s district championship game at Clayton, in which MICDS led at halftime by four, Kayla Armstrong led Westminster with 15 points; Delaney Hobbs had 18 for the Rams…

Villa Falls to Powerful Westminster at MICDS Tournament, 47-37

Kaitleya Frost Scores 15 in losing effort, Lauren Nickson has 14.

Top-seeded Westminster Christian Academy started strong and finished strong in a 47-37 victory over Villa Duchesne Wednesday in the semifinals of the MICDS Holiday Invitational Girls Basketball Tournament. The Wildcats led 13-5 after the first quarter but the Saints, on the strength of the outside shooting of Kaitleya Frost and Lauren Nickson, scored 17 points in the second quarter. The Saints again outscored Westminster 10-9 in the third quarter and entered the fourth quarter trailing by just four points. But the points proved hard to come by in the final eight minutes for the Saints as they scored just five points. Frost and Nickson each had solid offensive games for the Saints, scoring 15 and 14 points respectively. They each had a pair…

MICDS, Westminster Girls Post District Wins

Championship Game is Set for Friday Night at Clayton,Tip off is 7 p.m.

In the Class 4 district basketball tournament, the girls of MICDS earned a trip to the championship game winning in a sluggish match with host Clayton, winning 44-41. The Lady Rams opponents in the title game will be the Wildcats of Westminster Christian, winners over Villa Duchesne, 55-43. MICDS, sporting a 22-1 record won in a slow-down over the Greyhounds behind junior Campbell Torchin’s 15 points. Delaney Hobbs, averaging almost 16 points was held to just seven Wednesday night. At the halfway break, MICDS held a slim 14-11 lead. “I was more worried about losing the game then playing well,” said Hobbs, trying to think what went basically wrong. "It was frustrating.
