Villa's distance freshman Hannah Deinas is a star for the future.
“A winner never quits, and a quitter never wins” So true, so true. Ezekiel Elliott, the most prominent athlete to emerge from John Burroughs since the school’s inception in the 1920s was a winner on the MICDS district track Saturday. Consider the fact, between 11 am and 5 p.m., he ran 7 races, counting the preliminaries of the sprints and hurdles. He won six of those races--one got slightly away. More race photos on the Ladue-Frontenac Facebook Page The fact that he lost the 100 meter dash to fellow football back Denzell Conway (MICDS) stuck more in his craw than winning the other six. (See related story about Denzell Conway.) “I was surprised he beat me. I got lost in the moment a little bit winning that 110 high hurdles. He dipped under …

Guess who scored the game-winner over the visiting Principia Panthers?
Kaitlin Springer is mostly any coaches’ dream come true. Especially for Tim Twellman at Villa Duchesne. Talented, smart, coachable and approachable, quiet but introspective, this five-foot attacker is a giant for the Saints’ soccer program. Springer leads the Saints in points this year, 5 goals, 1 assist for 11 points; she scored the game-winning-goal at 64:34 of the match with Principia at home Tuesday. That turned out to be the only score in a close-quartered match. Sydney Miller, junior goal keeper recorded the shutout, and had the only assist in the game. Miller fired a perfect shot down the field midway into the second stanza and Springer got it on the bounce and one-timed a rocket shot past Panthers’ keeper Jessica Clouse. “Those …

Ladue clashes with Parkway North in baseball; all the local girls lacrosse teams take to the fields.
The rains need to clear out of the area and the fields need to dry up. We are heading into the month of May and the last month of high school competition. Teams still need tune ups for the playoffs, just around the corner. Here's what the locals are doing Monday: Baseball Ladue (15-2) at Parkway North (15-3) This 4:15 game on the Vikings campus takes on significant meaning. Both teams are playing exceedingly well this season. While Lex Kaplan has been ripping the cover off the ball, Rob Ewald has been limiting opposing batters. Daniel Brodksy is hitting .475 for North. Something has to give. Girls lacrosse MICDS (8-3) goes to Eureka Villa Duchesne (3-9) pays a visit to S. Joe (11-3) Burroughs (8-0) is at Lafayette Ladue (6-5) is at Nerinx …

St. Joe, MICDS and Ladue playing strong. Villa and Burroughs just getting going.
We’ve reached the midway point of the high school soccer team, so time to look at the results. St. Joseph’s Academy (7-1) The weather prevailed, for a change, and the Angels won the Green Division of the St. Louis Classic (sponsored by St. Joe) at the Lou Fusz soccer complex over the weekend. The Angels defeated Cedarburg, WI 5-1, routed Parkway South 6-0 Saturday and won Friday night over Shawnee Mission East, KS 2-0. This was a big weekend for scorers Haley Kavanaugh and Kaley Nieters (candidate for Patch MVP this week). Angels defender Nina Simon suffered an apparent head injury in the Parkway South game, and might be sidelined for some time. This week, the Angels go to Cor Jesu Wednesday, host Visitation Academy Thursday and then host …

Burroughs is 3-0 while Villa fell to 2-7. The Bombers had a comfortable 10-2 first-half lead. Leeanne Hurster and Barrett Carlson led the Bombers scoring with 5 goals apiece. Recognized soccer coach will build on 12-6-1 season.
Tim Twellman is anxious to get his soccer team onto the field. Most practices have been in the gym with snow, rain and sleet cutting out outdoor practice. The Saints were 12-6-1, but lost their first game in the district tournament last year. In the Coaches Corner, Twellman talks about what experiences he brings to the program; how much the parents like the sport; and the schedule he has for his 2013 squad. Let's hear from Villa coach Tim Twellman.
