The idea is to show the girls what the V.P. Organization has to offer them and what it is like to be a part of the V.P. Ball. Each young girl, beautifully dressed, …

A Cinderella Story, Going to the Veiled Prophet Ball

The Veiled Prophet Ball was the most splendid event I have ever attended.

When I found out that I was going to attend the Veiled Prophet Ball, I felt a bit like Cinderella, a commoner with nothing to wear. I had one week to find a formal dress and above-the-elbow white gloves. That may sound like plenty of time to some, but in girl world it is nerve-rackingly too close, especially with Christmas fast approaching, holiday travel and a heavy workload already on my calendar.   I was thrilled to attend such a beautiful event, even if I was only there to take photos and gather information for writing about it. But with so much to do, I was also a bit concerned. I am not sure who was most concerned, me or the Ladue-Frontenac Patch editor, Jim Baer. He called every day asking, “Did you find a dress and gloves yet?” …

Veiled Prophet Ball, an Experience Fit for a Queen, or a Girl Next Door – Part II

Eleanor Clark Brennan, “Clarke” is still glowing after her magical night of Grandeur at the Veiled Prophet Ball.

The new Veiled Prophet Queen of Love and Beauty, Miss Eleanor Clark Brennan, sat down with Patch for a conversation about her magical experience as the newly crowned queen. Miss Brennan is as delightful as she is beautiful. She holds a prestigious honor, but in her everyday life, she is very much “the girl next door” like those you will find on any college campus. Patch: How does it feel to be a part of a tradition that has been going on for 127 years? Eleanor: I looked on Wikipedia, both my mom and me are on the list of the Queens for the Veiled Prophet. So, it was kind of fun to say that I am on the internet. Patch: Your mom was queen some 30 years ago. How do you relate to that? Eleanor: We have little news clippings from my mom when …

Eleanor: You can call me "Clarke"; that is what everyone calls me. Patch: "Clarke," I am trying to imagine what this experience was like for you. Eleanor: It still hasn’t hit me how big of a deal this is and how important this is. I am just still in awe and can’t believe it happened. It was just amazing. Patch: Do you feel like you are just an …
