Nerinx in Title Game with a 68-60 Win Over Host Ladue

Class 5, District 2 title game Thursday between the Markers and St. Joe Angels.

Laying a trap for the Angels. Nerinx Hall has two complete days of rest before facing the St. Joe Angles for the Class 5, District 2 championship game against nemesis St. Joseph’s Academy Thursday night at Ladue. That game, which tips off at 7 p.m. will be for all the marbles. “Oh, we’ve been preparing for that game a long time ago. Not with just a couple of days,” said the Nerinx coach Mike Slater. Of course, Nerinx was not thinking ahead of a game with the Angels, having to meet Ladue last night in a semifinal game. Ladue’s Taylor Robinson, who has inked a scholarship with Temple University wasn’t going down without a fight. She led everyone in scoring with 23 points. The moment of frustration came late in the game. Robinson hauled down …

MICDS Girls Drop the Hammer on Ladue, Winning Handily, 67-35

MICDS Rams spurt out to 19-0 start of game, and were never headed.

When Ladue’s 6-foot-3 senior center Taylor Robinson makes up her mind to go to the hole, there is probably not a defender on this planet who can stop her. Unfortunately for the Ladue Rams, Robinson just gained her second-half eligibility and is battling to get back into shape and into the starting lineup. Robinson started the game on the bench as the host MICDS Rams fired up a full court suffocating defense and a spirited running game to build a 19-0 lead. By the time Robinson got into the game (4:50 in the first quarter), all Ladue’s coaches could do was sit and watch. “When they build a 19-0 lead, our entire game plan was completely out the window. At that point, it’s just survival time,” said Ladue’s coach Cord Dockery who could only …

Talented Taylor Robinson Not Yet Ready to Crack Ladue's Starting 5

Starting five run away in the second half to defeat Jennings 66-47. Robinson gets 10 points in less than 15 minutes of playing time.

On a 9-4 Ladue basketball team; one that captured the holiday title of the Ritenour tournament, coach Cord Dockery has a bit of a tempest in a tea pot. He’s not about to give away starting jobs on a team that is meshing so well. At the same time, he has a senior, 6-foot-3 Taylor Robinson, with a scholarship agreement in her hip pocket to Temple University, just becoming eligible for second semester play. Robinson had to take care of personal business and get her grades in order to play the second half of the season. Monday, the Rams visit the other Rams on Warson Road, the mighty MICDS team and Doc knows he will need every weapon in his arsenal to win. While Robinson was taking sips of water and watching from the pines; senior Elizabeth …

Crunch Time Defensive Plays, Jump Shot By McNichols Lift Ladue Past DuBourg In Tourney Semifinal At Ritenour

Rams will play host school in championship final, after getting past DuBourg in hard-fought early afternoon tussle.

OVERLAND -- For the first 30 minutes of Thursday's Ritenour Holiday Tournament game against Bishop DuBourg, Ladue High girls basketball coach Cord Dockery tried just about every trick in the book to get his Rams to dig in and play defense like he knew they could. Dockery called different defenses; he called several timeouts to set up the defensive possession like he wanted; he even played some unusual lineup combinations to hopefully get the Rams to dig in. In the final two minutes, the coach finally found a strategy that would work -- he challenged his crew to show what kind of guts they had. Dockery must have yelled the phrase "it's gut-check time" 20 or 30 times (probably wasn't really that many), but the point was clear, the coach …

Late Rally Falls Short, As Ladue Suffers Girls Hoops Loss To Notre Dame

Sophomores Cate Meyer and Kaitlynn Walker combined for 27 points and several big buckets for the Rams, but it wasn't enough to overcome Notre Dame's red-hot shooting from three-point land.

After losing star center Taylor Robinson at the beginning of December for an issue head coach Cord Dockery described as "personal time", the Ladue High girls basketball team has had to re-work its strategy and philosophy the last few weeks, at what for most teams would be the worst possible time -- right smack dab in the middle of the season. And with no definite idea when to expect the return of Robinson, a 6-foot-3 Temple University recruit who averaged 20 points and nine rebounds a game last season, Ladue has had only a few practices and even fewer games to try to figure out just how to play without her. Last week, it seemed like the Rams might've figured some things out, as they picked up two big wins over John Burroughs and Parkway …

Ladue Girls Hoops Snaps Losing String With Hard-Fought Win Over John Burroughs

Rams, who are without standout center Taylor Robinson, got 20 points from Liz Greenberg and 17 more from Kaitlynn Walker to end three-game losing streak.

The Ladue High girls basketball team began the 2012-2013 season on fire, winning its first three games and advancing to the final of the Fox Tournament two weeks ago. Standout senior Taylor Robinson, a 6'3 center whose headed to Temple University on a basketball scholarship next year, got hurt in that game and hasn't played since. And without her, the Rams had a difficult time in games against Pattonville and Parkway North -- both losses, that gave Ladue a surprising three-game losing streak. On Tuesday though, the Rams seemed to finally figure out how to play without their all-state center dominating post, thanks to huge nights by senior Liz Greenberg and sophomore Kaitlynn Walker, that led Ladue to an impressive 56-46 road win over John …

Patch High School Hoops Roundup: Two Weeks In, And The Action Is Already Getting Good

An inside look at what went down this week in local high school basketball, along with a look at what's coming up next week.

The Missouri high school basketball season in barely two weeks old, and with red-hot starts by the Ladue boys, St. Joe girls, and both John Burroughs teams, the 2012-2013 campaign is shaping up like a mighty fine year on the hardwood for the local teams. The team that's looked the best two weeks in -- and it's really no surprise -- is the St. Joseph's Academy girls, who are 3-0, with three 30-point wins this season. The most impressive win might've come on Tuesday, when the Angels, ranked No. 2 in the city in most local girls basketball polls, dismantled third-ranked Ursuline Academy by the score of 74-44. The Bears are a really good team, but they were just no match for a St. Joe squad that got 20 points, 16 rebounds, and eight blocks …

Ladue Opens Girls Hoops Season With Hard-Fought Win Over Whitfield

Senior Taylor Robinson had 19 points and 13 rebounds before fouling out with a minute to go, teammates knocked down eight straight free throws to seal Ram victory over Warriors.

CREVE COEUR -- For about three and half quarters of their season opener at Whitfield High on Tuesday night, the Ladue girls basketball team was in full control. The Rams were getting whatever shots they wanted, and were denying just about anything Whitfield tried to do, as well. But in the final few minutes of the fourth quarter, Whitfield turned the tied and nearly rallied all the way back from a 15-point deficit. As it happened though, Ladue managed to hold off the Warriors, for an entertaining 51-43 victory in the Rams' 2012-2013 hoops season opener. Senior center Taylor Robinson had 19 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Rams, with 10 of her points coming in the first half, as Ladue built a 25-18 halftime edge. In the second half, the …

Ladue Girls Hoops Looking to Make Run at First Ever District Title

With top scorer and D-1 recruit Taylor Robinson back, Rams expect big season on the hardwood.

Along the back halls of Ladue High School's beautifully-remodeled Neilsen Gymnasium, the rafters are filled with banners recognizing the accomplishments of all the Rams' sports teams throughout the years. Conspicuously absent from the glorious lore of all-time Ladue sports is any mention of the girls basketball team ever winning districts and advancing into the state playoffs. That's because it's never happened. Ever. But this season, with a roster that features top college prospect Taylor Robinson at center and five other returning seniors, many local hoops experts believe this is the year the Ladue girls finally grab their first district championship. "Well, that's one of the goals," head coach Cord Dockery said. "With six seniors coming…

Reed School Fourth Graders Help Bring Home A Victory

Ladue runs all over Summit 59-43 for 15th win of the season.

There’s a very good reason why Reed School fourth grade teacher Karla Rigdon skipped grading papers and spent the evening cheering for the Ladue High Rams’ basketball team. A real simple reason for certain. Seems that star guard senior Kate Holloway is a Cadet teacher in her class. Ladue seniors get a chance to go into the classroom to see if a future in teaching might suit them. Frankly, Holloway adores her grade schoolers quite a bit. She put on the chalk board a schedule of home games in the new year. The students voted to attend Monday night’s game with the Summit Falcons. Armed with Skittles, ropes, Twix, Laughy Taffy, bags of popcorn and canned soda, 15 fourth graders sat in the front rows of the bleachers and cheered heartily for No…
