Rams were 19-9 last season, but with junior point guard Cornell Johnston leading the way, many believe Ladue is headed for an even better season this year.
In a year when many thought it might have to take its lumps and suffer through a rough season, the Ladue High boys basketball team turned in a terrific campaign that saw the Rams go 19-9, and win the Suburban East Conference championship again. By the time the playoffs rolled around, Ladue, with its roster full of talented underclassmen, looked like it might be on the precipice of achieving something great. Unfortunately, another talented team of underclassmen at CBC High ended Ladue's playoff run early. But bowing out before the March madness even got started last year, has done nothing but fuel the fire and what most experts believe will be a dynamite season for the Rams this year. "We feel pretty good about what we've got," Ladue head …

With top scorer and D-1 recruit Taylor Robinson back, Rams expect big season on the hardwood.
Along the back halls of Ladue High School's beautifully-remodeled Neilsen Gymnasium, the rafters are filled with banners recognizing the accomplishments of all the Rams' sports teams throughout the years. Conspicuously absent from the glorious lore of all-time Ladue sports is any mention of the girls basketball team ever winning districts and advancing into the state playoffs. That's because it's never happened. Ever. But this season, with a roster that features top college prospect Taylor Robinson at center and five other returning seniors, many local hoops experts believe this is the year the Ladue girls finally grab their first district championship. "Well, that's one of the goals," head coach Cord Dockery said. "With six seniors coming…

Junior goalkeeper Eric Stuber makes two dynamite saves in penalty kick round to lift Rams to victory over the archrival Greyhounds.
Back on October 12, the Ladue High and Clayton High boys soccer teams played one of their typical thrilling Suburban East Conference matchups that had to be settled in overtime penalty kicks. So it was a surprise to no one on Thursday, when the Rams and Greyhounds battled for the MSHSAA Class 2 District 5 championship at MICDS High School's Hawes Field, that it would once again be decided in PKs. "It's always like this when we play," Ladue head coach Matt Prange said. "It's a great rivalry. The kids always get into it, and it was great out here again tonight." Once it concluded, things were great for Prange and crew -- not so much for Clayton coach Tom Redmond and his Greyhounds -- as Ladue scored on all three of its penalty kicks and held…

Sixth-seeded Rams were Suburban East Conference champions, but lost Tuesday's first-round playoff game in straight sets to Nerinx Hall.
FRONTENAC -- Even though her club was the undefeated champion of the Suburban East Conference this season, and was rolling along with an eight-game winning streak, Ladue High girls volleyball coach Roberta McCaffrey knew her Rams were facing a difficult task once the MSHSAA playoffs began, Tuesday night at St. Joseph's Academy. Many consider St. Joe the top contender to de-throne Lafayette High as state champion this year. So it will likely take some team's best game of the season to beat the mighty Angels. Unfortunately, Ladue won't get that chance, as the Rams were eliminated from the district playoffs on Tuesday, in a 25-16, 25-6, straight-set loss to Nerinx Hall. "It's definitely disappointing to not play better than we did," McCaffrey…

Junior QB Matthew Hooper leads the way with 305 passing yards and four touchdowns, as Ladue rampages over Jennings, 49-6.
Coming off a disappointing loss at Fort Zumwalt North last week, the Ladue High football team bounced back in a big way Saturday afternoon against league rival Jennings High. The Rams looked re-energized and re-focused in 49-6 Senior Day romp over the visiting Warriors in the final regular season game of the year at Ladue’s Ramming Athletic Center. Junior quarterback Matthew Hooper, who completed just seven-of-20 passes against Zumwalt North, was as sharp as he’d been all season against Jennings, connecting on 18-of-23 passes for 305 yards and four touchdowns. Hooper threw three of those scores in the first half, as the Rams built a 28-0 halftime lead. Senior running backs Shawn Whitley and Marcellis Wade each had a short touchdown run to …

Despite concerns over field conditions, Vikings and Rams combine for 23 hits and 13 runs in entertaining matchup of conference frontrunners.
After another massive downpour hit the area Monday morning, making the original game location at Ladue High School unplayable, it wasn't until late in the afternoon that the Rams and their hopeful gameday opponent, Parkway North, were able to find someplace else suitable to play. And then, even though the field at the former Westminster Christian Academy, now known as Ladue's West Campus looked fantastic, especially considering all the earlier rain, it took more than a half an hour to convince the game umpires that the playing surface was dry enough to play on. But once head coaches Rob Garrett of Ladue and Fred Friedman of Parkway North were able to convince the umps that the field was indeed safe, the Rams and Vikings staged a wildly …
