One of the most successful soccer coaches in the St. Louis Community.
St. Joseph’s Academy has promoted Assistant Athletic Director Maureen McVey to fill the top spot vacated by retiring Athletic Director Michaela Witcher. A physical education teacher at the school for more than 24 years, McVey has served as athletic department chair for 11 years, varsity soccer coach for 20 years, and freshman field hockey coach for ten years. Like her soon-to-be-predecessor Witcher, McVey says she will continue to hold her coaching staff and student-athletes to the highest standards. “I want St. Joseph’s Academy to remain one of the best athletic programs not just in the state of Missouri—but across the entire nation. Friday, Jim Baer has some thoughts about Michaela Witcher, bringing to an end a 38-year teaching, coaching and athletic directors' career at St. Joseph's Academy. Fair to say, Michaela touched the lives of thousands of bright, talented young ladies as they passed through the hallways. Just ask anyone who is the most popular person at SJA, year in and year out, it would be hard to top this fun-loving spirited leader. Michaela Witcher is the personification of what St. Joe is all about so read about it Friday and draw your own conclusions.

Everyone wishes her well.

Angels are still ranked No. 2 in the area, and No. 2 in state, despite suffering first loss of the season in the Viz championship game. Carthage is 10-2 after a second-place finish at the Neosho Tournament.
Just about every time the St. Joseph's Academy girls basketball team takes the floor, they will be the featured attraction. No matter how big or prestigious the event is, the St. Joe girls almost always draw top billing. It was that way at the Visitation Holiday Tournament over the break, where the Angels went 3-1 and took second place, following a championship game loss to No. 1 Incarnate Word Academy. And it will be that way again on Saturday at De Smet High, when St. Joe will play in the marquee matchup of the 5th Annual Prepcasts Elite Girls Basketball Shootout. against Carthage (MO) High. The Angels will match up against one of the top teams from the southwest Missouri area, Carthage High, which owns a 10-2 record this season, after …
