Maureen McVey Promoted to Athletic Director at St. Joseph's Academy

One of the most successful soccer coaches in the St. Louis Community.

St. Joseph’s Academy has promoted Assistant Athletic Director Maureen McVey to fill the top spot vacated by retiring Athletic Director Michaela Witcher.  A physical education teacher at the school for more than 24 years, McVey has served as athletic department chair for 11 years, varsity soccer coach for 20 years, and freshman field hockey coach for ten years. Like her soon-to-be-predecessor Witcher, McVey says she will continue to hold her coaching staff and student-athletes to the highest standards. “I want St. Joseph’s Academy to remain one of the best athletic programs not just in the state of Missouri—but across the entire nation. St. Joe Produced 7 Outstanding Science Fair Winners

35 students from the school recognized for their outstanding works.

  Information was provided by the science department at St. Joseph's Academy. St. Joseph’s Academy produced 35 finalists at the Greater St. Louis Science Fair. Friday, Jim Baer has some thoughts about Michaela Witcher, bringing to an end a 38-year teaching, coaching and athletic directors' career at St. Joseph's Academy. Fair to say, Michaela touched the lives of thousands of bright, talented young ladies as they passed through the hallways. Just ask anyone who is the most popular person at SJA, year in and year out, it would be hard to top this fun-loving spirited leader. Michaela Witcher is the personification of what St. Joe is all about so read about it Friday and draw your own conclusions.

Lengthy dedicated 38-year career is coming to an end.

Michaela Witcher, one of the lifers at St. Joseph's Academy has just announced her retirement after 38 years on the job. This, of course will allow more time for golfing and other activities. Speculation is running wild already who might be a good candidate for one of the most prestigious jobs in all of women's sports. It will take a Herculean effort to fill the shoes of Michaela Witcher. Everyone wishes her well.

Show Me Showdown Games on FOX Sports Plus This Weekend

St. Joe and DeSmet make the big screen on the biggest games of the season.

    FOX Sports Midwest will provide live coverage of the MSHSAA Show-Me Showdown Class 4 and 5 basketball championships this week in Columbia. Semifinal and third place games will stream live at FOXSportsMidwest.com, while Saturday’s championship games from Mizzou Arena will be televised live on FOX Sports Midwest Plus. A complete schedule and list of channel numbers is attached.  Show-Me Showdown games will also air live nationally on FOX College Sports. Neil Harwell and Corey Riggs will handle play-by-play duties for the Class 4 and 5 championship games, with Doug Elstun and Jim Powers as analysts. Erin Nelson, St. Joe Basketball: Week No. 9 MVP

Erin Nelson, one of the strongest performers in St. Joseph's Academy history is the MVP "Athlete of the Week." She romped in the voting this week. Nelson averages 16.5 points per game; is an 8.2 rebounds per game performer, and the Angels head to the district playoffs with a 18-5 record. Patch.com: How has your season been going so far? Erin Nelson: The season is going very well and flying by. We have improved a lot since the beginning of the year. St. Joseph's Academy Annual Auction February 23 at School

This year, the theme is an "Evening in Paris." Raising money for the operating budget of the school.

The annual St. Joseph's Academy auction will be held on the evening of Saturday, February 23 in the school's gymnasium and reception area. The theme is an "Evening in Paris" and the outer area of the gym will be transformed into a French market place. Co chairs of the event are Beth Pelch of Webster Groves who has daughters Anna, senior and Mary Clare, sophomore in the school and Carol Mullenix of Warson Woods who has daughters Paige, senior and Peyton, freshman attending St. Joe. A Mass will be celebrated at 4:30 p.m., followed by cocktails, hors d'ouvres and silent auction at 5:30 p.m., and a gourmet dinner and live auction at 7 p.m. Dan Buck of St. Louis Cardinal Glennon Hospital for Children is the master of ceremonies. Death Penalty Activist Sister Helen Prejean Visits St. Joseph’s Academy Feb. 6 and 7

Sister will attend "Dead Man Walking school theater project.

Sister Helen Prejean, CSJ, author of international best seller “Dead Man Walking: An Eyewitness Account of the Death Penalty” and leading advocate for the abolition of the death penalty will discuss life, death and social justice in “A Conversation with Sister Helen”, Feb.6. This event is hosted by St. Joseph’s Academy.  Sister Helen will also attend opening night of the St. Joseph’s Academy performance of “Dead Man Walking School Theater Project” written by Tim Robbins on Feb. 7 at the same location. Kevin Flattery named Director of Institutional Advancement at St. Joseph’s Academy

Responsible for design and implementation of all school fund raising and community relations efforts.

St. Joseph’s Academy, a Catholic, young women’s college-prep school has announced that Kevin Flattery has joined the staff as Director of Institutional Advancement.  Flattery will serve as a member of the senior management team, and is responsible for the design and implementation of all aspects of the school’s fund raising and community relations efforts.    For more than ten years, Flattery worked as the Director of Institutional Advancement at St. Teresa’s Academy in Kansas City, MO.  St. Teresa’s is the sister school of St. Joseph’s Academy (SJA) and is among the educational institutions that were founded and sponsored by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet.  About his new post at SJA, Flattery said, “I am pleased to have the …

St. Joe Draws Tough Matchup Against Carthage At Prepcasts Elite Girls Basketball Shootout On Saturday

Angels are still ranked No. 2 in the area, and No. 2 in state, despite suffering first loss of the season in the Viz championship game. Carthage is 10-2 after a second-place finish at the Neosho Tournament.

Just about every time the St. Joseph's Academy girls basketball team takes the floor, they will be the featured attraction. No matter how big or prestigious the event is, the St. Joe girls almost always draw top billing. It was that way at the Visitation Holiday Tournament over the break, where the Angels went 3-1 and took second place, following a championship game loss to No. 1 Incarnate Word Academy. And it will be that way again on Saturday at De Smet High, when St. Joe will play in the marquee matchup of the 5th Annual Prepcasts Elite Girls Basketball Shootout. against Carthage (MO) High.
