Villa Duchesne Oak Hill "Mums of Alum's" Prepare Packages for Combat Soldiers Overseas

Third year in a row packages are shipped to fighting forces in Afghanistan.

For the third consecutive year, the Villa Duchesne and Oak Hill Mums of Alums gathered, prepared and shipped non-perishable items for military personnel serving overseas, particularly in Afghanistan. Soldiers serving in forward outposts are unable to purchase any items. Tired of MRE’s, meals ready to eat, getting care packages from home is especially a treat. Packaged chicken and packaged tuna are very popular these days. This year’s goal was to meet or exceed the 75 boxes shipped overseas in 2012. A group of Mums of Alums (the mothers of graduates of the school community gathered to box up all of the donated items. For weeks, students at Oak Hill and Villa Duchesne have been bringing non-perishable items to go into the care packages. …

The Baer Facts

What Will Be New and Different in Ladue & Frontenac in 2013?

Administrators coming and going; shops opening and closing; Ladue gets a new mayor and so much more.

Correction: The donation for the new MICDS Math & Science building came from the Danforth family, not the Danforth Foundation. Patch regrets this error. Ah, as your trustworthy Ladue-Frontenac Patch editor, it seems time to look into that crystal ball and see what is going to happen in 2013. A pox on those who say nothing ever happens in Ladue or Frontenac. Here’s some Patchy items heading into the New Year. The Ladue School District will get a new Superintendent. Now that’s earth-shaking. Marsha Chappelow wrapped up a 40 year teaching/supervisory career and headed to Kansas City the very end of November. She asked for, and received her full pay and benefits, though she will be only available for consulting the last seven months of her …

Villa Duchesne Students Donate Cash, Nonperishable Items to Tornado Survivors in Joplin

Coni Kreisch and Tracy Bazoian carry out the Sacred Heart spirit of Villa Duchesne.

This is the first of a two-part series about Villa Duchesne's efforts to aid the tornado victims of Joplin, MO. The series continues Sunday with a local account of relief work in the tornado-ravaged zone. Coni Kreisch is a Villa Duchesne mom, as is one of her best friends, Tracy Bazoian. Coni’s daughter, Christina, 17, graduated as valedictorian of the senior class and is enrolled in the Mars Rover mission for NASA at Washington University. Tracy’s daughter, Casey, 17, also a recent graduate, will enter the freshman class at Oklahoma State University this fall. “I was thinking a lot about the storm survivors in Joplin. I asked Tracy about it, and unfortunately for me, she thought that was a great idea, (to help),” Kreisch said. Like a …

Villa Duchesne School Community Collecting Non Perishable Items to be delivered to Joplin Food Banks Tomorrow.

The Villa Duchesne Oak Hill School community will be collecting non perishable items until 8 p.m. tonight for tornado victims in Joplin. A donated Enterprise Leasing truck will take thousands of pounds of food stuffs, personal hygiene items and other donations to various drop off points in the tornado relief recovery zone in Joplin. Cash donations will be gladly accepted. This drive was quickly organized by co-chairs and Villa parents Coni Kreisch and Tracy Bazoian. "Our goal is to fill the entire truck, and we have a second donated truck standing by if we need it," said Kreisch in the early morning hours today. Donations through midday were brisk.
