St. Joe Volleyball Duo Jensen, Gower Named To Under Armour All-American Team

Senior setter Alyssa Jensen was named First-Team All-American, while explosive middle blocker Natalie Gower was named honorable mention.

FRONTENAC -- The postseason honors just keep rolling in for the dynamic duo of St. Joseph's Academy volleyball, Alyssa Jensen and Natalie Gower, who helped lead the Angels to a 30-5 record and district championship this season. Both players were named to the all-conference, all-district, and all-metro teams earlier this month, and Gower was also our selection for Female Fall Sports Patch MVP of the Year. And now this week, it was announced that both Jensen and Gower were named to the Under Armour Girls Volleyball High School All-American Team. Jensen, one of the top schoolgirl setters in the nation, was picked for the First Team and has been invited to play in the Under Armour All-America Volleyball Match & Skills Competition, on December …

MVP Week 14: New Chance For Fans To Vote For Their Favorite Athlete of the Week

Representatives from all five Ladue-Frontenac-Olivette-area high school's made this week's Athlete of the Week candidate list. Fans can vote for a winner through 5 p.m. Thursday.

We took a week off from the Patch MVP voting to honor or Male and Female Patch MVPs of the Fall (Ezekiel Elliott of John Burroughs football and Natalie Gower of St. Joe volleyball). But it's time to bring back to weekly battle royale, as we ask fans to vote for their favorite local Athlete of the Week. Once again, we've nominated deserving representatives from all five local high schools, and we've opened up the voting to let the fans tell us, who should get the nod. Our friends over at Villa Duchesne have made this award all their own this month, by making sure each of our November votes went to the Saints' nominee. This week's vote marks the last time anybody from Ladue, John Burroughs, St. Joe, or MICDS will get a chance to keep Villa …

St. Joe Opens Girls Hoops Season A Day Late, But Still Wins In A Rout

Sydney Stipanovich had 23 points and 11 rebounds, and Erin Nelson added 19 points of her own, as the Angels claimed a Turkey Day Shootout victory over Troy.

FRONTENAC -- For all the possible bits of bad news a coach might get in the days before the first game of the season, the phone call St. Joseph's Academy basketball coach Julie Matheny got a couple days ago wasn't so bad. The Angels were supposed to open the new girls hoops season last Friday night, with a game against Althoff Catholic High in SJA's annual Turkey Day Shootout. But in the days before the game, an administrator from Althoff called Matheny and asked would St. Joe be willing to cancel the game. The reason being, the Althoff football team has been the Cinderella story of the Illinois high school playoffs, and made it to the state championship game, which was played in Champaign (IL) on Friday afternoon. And with the Crusader …

St. Joe Volleyball Star Natalie Gower Slams Her Way To Fall Female MVP of the Year Award

Senior will play at TCU next year, after leading Angels to 30-5 record and a trip to the state quarterfinals this season.

FRONTENAC -- In the moments after the most anticipated girls volleyball match of the season, when No. 1-ranked Lafayette hosted No. 2-ranked St. Joseph's Academy in the Class 4 state quarterfinals back on October 27, nearly every member of the Angels squad was in tears following a heart-breaking and season-ending loss to the eventual state champion Lancers. The Angels were heartbroken and disappointed, and every one of them was in tears, except senior outside hitter Natalie Gower. The MWAA Player of the Year, and future Texas Christian University star, who ranked near the area's best in every hitting category this season, including kills (337) and kill percentage (47.9), didn't shed a tear. Despite what might have been going on inside, …
