MVP, Week 7, Madison Barker, Ladue Track and Field

The junior sprinter blew away the field in voting for this week's honors.

This week's Patch MVP vote was not close. Madison Barker, a junior from Ladue High School took top prize, based on the strength of two district titles in the 200 and 400 meter dash, and in helping the Rams'  4x100meter and 4x400meter relay squads qualify for the state sectional track meet held this past weekend. She answered some of our questions by email before the sectional meet. Patch: How is your season going? Madison Barker: It has been going pretty well.  Patch: What is the favorite thing you like about being on your team? MB: Despite being such a large team, we are all pretty close. Everyone is supportive of each other and when people are racing, everyone is cheering.  Patch: Which athlete do you admire the most, and why? MB: Lolo …

Patch MVP: Christine Yan, Ladue girls swimming

This week's 'Athlete of the Week' is a serious state title contender that owns the fastest time of any swimmer in the area in the individual 100-yard breaststroke.

Patch: There's only a little while left for you to decide on where you might want to go to college. What are your thoughts about college as the time to choose grows near? CY: As of right now, I haven't really set my sights on a particular school. I'm still trying to explore my options. I do know that I'd like to go into the medical field though. Patch: Will you try to swim in college (or possibly play another sport)? Or will you be going to college as a regular student? CY: That's a really hard decision... I guess it all depends on where I decide to go to college. As always, academics come first and I want to know I can really focus on my education. That being said, I really love swimming and can't imagine ever not doing it. Patch: How did…

Burroughs Boys Surge To 7-0 With Impressive Win Over O'Fallon Christian

Senior Jimmy Carney led all scorers with 17 points, while teammates Foye Oluokun and Ezekiel Elliott added 14 points and 12 points in exciting victory at the Terrell Ramey/Midwest Showdown Shootout.

ST. CHARLES -- John Burroughs boys basketball coach Steve Wilcutt estimates that since the football season went so long, with the Bombers advancing all the way to the state championship game for the third straight year, that three weeks into the hoops season, his team has had eight practices and seven games. For most teams that ratio might be a death sentence, with so few practices to get ready for a three-month long season. But for Wilcutt and his Bombers, it's worked just fine, as Burroughs is now 7-0 on the season, thanks to another superb performance on Saturday at the Terrell Ramey/Midwest Showdown Shootout against O'Fallon Christian High. "We showed we can guard a little bit," Wilcutt said, following JBS' 56-43 win over Christian. "…

Patch MVP Winter Week 3: Elliott Shevitz, Goaltender, Ladue Hockey

Sophomore netminder picked up his first varsity win, with 26 saves last week, in the Rams' 4-3 win over Priory.

Usually we ask upperclassmen their thoughts about college, but we're still interested in your thoughts about furthering your education. Have you thought at all about where you might want to go to college? I am actually already looking for colleges, but for lacrosse, not hockey! There are some colleges in which I'm interested, but at this time I'm not really sure exactly where I will be attending. Will you try to play hockey there (or any other sport)? Are will you be going to college as a regular student? Like I said, although hockey is my passion, I was fortunate enough to start varsity as a freshman in lacrosse. The Ladue lacrosse team was very successful and we were able to make our first ever Division 1 playoff appearance last year. …

Patch MVP Winter Week 2: John Burroughs Two-Sport Star, Foye Oluokun

Senior was a key member of the JBS football squad that made three straight trips to the state championship game, and is now leading the boys basketball team in scoring for the second straight year.

Until the final day of voting last Thursday, all five Patch MVP candidates were still in the running for our weekly top athlete award. But on that final day, the folks from John Burroughs just took over the ballot and made sure their candidate, football and basketball star Foye Oluokun, walked away with the award. Foye wound up getting 64 percent of the total votes cast, and became one of our biggest landslide Patch MVP winners ever. This week, we were able to catch up with Foye, and learned a whole lot of awesome things about one of Burroughs' top student-athletes. Here's just some of what we found out about Foye Oluokun, our Winter Week 2 Patch MVP Athlete of the Week: Patch: Even though you have been a standout player on both JBS' …

MVP Winter Week 1: First Winter Winner, Jordan McClendon, John Burroughs Girls Basketball

Sophomore center has helped Bombers snag wins in two of their first three games this season.

In the opening game of the new season, and with her team playing without its best player, sophomore Jordan McClendon scored 12 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead John Burroughs to a 33-15 win over Lift for Life Academy. That magnificent season debut earned McClendon a nomination in this week's Patch MVP Athlete of the Week voting. And with a strong showing of support from the JBS community, McClendon won the ballot this week (nabbing a whopping 70 percent of the votes cast) to become the third JBS student-athlete to win Patch MVP this year. Football players Peter Schnuck and Ezekiel Elliott received the Patch MVP honor earlier, and the jovial Jordan McClendon has joined them. Earlier this week, we caught up with Jordan and were able…

Representatives from all five Ladue-Frontenac-Olivette-area high school's made this week's Athlete of the Week candidate list. Fans can vote for a winner through 5 p.m. Thursday.

We took a week off from the Patch MVP voting to honor or Male and Female Patch MVPs of the Fall (Ezekiel Elliott of John Burroughs football and Natalie Gower of St. Joe volleyball). Once again, we've nominated deserving representatives from all five local high schools, and we've opened up the voting to let the fans tell us, who should get the nod.
