Ladue, John Burroughs Soccer, Eliminated In State Sectionals

Burroughs fell 2-1 in fierce battle with Trinity Catholic, while Ladue lost on controversial, last-second penalty kick at Parkway Central.

The marvelous high school soccer seasons had by the squads from both Ladue and John Burroughs came to abrupt endings on Tuesday, as both the Rams and Bombers were defeated in their respective state sectional playoff games against Parkway Central and Trinity Catholic. Burroughs, which was the No. 4-ranked small school team in the area, fell 2-1 to No. 10-ranked Trinity, while Ladue suffered a bitter and controversial loss to Parkway Central, which scored the game-winning goal on a penalty kick it was awarded with 1 second left in the regulation. Colts Open Season by Romping Over Ladue, 42-17

Augie Brooks scores three times in non-league opener for both squads.

Two years running, Ladue and Parkway Central have opened their football season under the lights on the Colts synthetic turf. The players are somewhat different; the results much the same. Last year Central prevailed 31-14 and this year it was all Parkway Central, 42-17. Junior quarterback Zach Lazenby came up a fraction short of the end zone at the conclusion of a 20-yard ramble at the first half or it might have been worse. Junior rusher Augie Brooks crossed the goal line three times for the Colts (runs of 6, 9, and 21); Jack Buschman scored on runs of 6 and 83 and Lazenby plunged for 1 to salt away the victory. Ladue got its points on a Shawn Whitely 21-yard run; a 7 yard run by Udell Hyde late in the game and a 25 yard field goal by …

Rams Open Football Season at Parkway Central Tonight

This is the traditional season opener for both teams.

Every year, it seems the Ladue Rams open up on the Colts synthetic turf. That’s because in 2012, Ladue still does not have lights at its home field. They give away that advantage often. Last year the the Colts put on a strong aerial show and beat the Rams, 31-14. The passing combination at Ladue left via graduation. Brandon Carr, threw for 17 TDS and was a 50 percent passer. His favorite target Jehu Chesson (53 catches, 75  yards and 6 TDs) is locked in a battle for a stating berth for the highly-regarded Michigan Wolverines. Deavin Edwards, who rushed for 26 TDs and 1,579 yards before experiencing a season-ending ankle injury in the Clayton game is gone. He's at Missouri Valley College. It looks like Matt Hooper will be the quarterback. …

Good Week For Villa Saints In MICDS Holiday Tournament

Saints roll past Parkway Central for third place finish.

Villa Duchesne has won state titles in volleyball, golf and field hockey, but not in basketball. Energetic coach Jane Ellen Kuenzel, alumnus of the WNBA has other designs on that. She is molding and shaping her team like a sculptor. She is learning that getting over .500 can be a painful experience. Friday night, the Saints put things together to beat Parkway Central 42-36 for the first ever girls title at the MICDS Holiday Invitational. Posting two wins in three games jumped the record to 5-4. Kuenzel would like to build on the year-ending outcome at MICDS. “We shot poorly and they (Parkway Central) are such a super strong team. They have fine athletes on that team,” said the Villa coach. She did, however find a silver lining in a rainy …
