As a group, we need to shed a lot of those pounds put on over the holidays.

  The doldrums of January can present quite the challenge as most of us might just experience the battle of the bulge. We’ve pigged our ways through the holidays. How many pounds were put on noshing and drinking and loading up on the calories at all those holiday parties? The Christmas cookies, the champaign and the snacks just take their toll. The time has arrived to shed the LBS’s in 2013. I love this time of the year. The work out centers are jammed to the rafters. People are taking numbers to get on the stair masters and the tread mills. Everyone is there with the best of intentions. People are sweating off tons of fat. The swimming pool lanes are all crowded. This week’s Business Buzz stopped in at the NutriFormance performance center in Le Chateau Village in Frontenac. Patch caught up with owner Dale Huff for a discussion about his business. When was NutriFormance founded. Dale Huff: March of 1997. This is our 15th year. And have you expanded your space in that time. Huff: All the time. Expand, contract, expand, contract, all sorts of things. We added the Athletic Republic component in 2009 and essentially we have two businesses under one roof now. It works very well from a cross referal standpoint. They are student athletes, and that’s pretty neat. How many employees do you have fulltime, partime. What's in Your Child's Lunchbox?

Here's some advice on packing healthy lunches for the upcoming school year.

With the school year on the horizon it brings many parents back to the question: What should I pack for my child’s lunch?  Many schools provide the option of packing your child’s lunch or purchasing a hot lunch. If you have a picky eater (as I do), try to find healthy and easy solutions for your child’s lunch. The website for National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Control stated: “The prevalence of obesity among children aged 6 to 11 years increased from 6.5 percent 1980 to 19.6 percent in 2008; and among adolescents aged 12 to 19 years increased from 5.0 percent to 18.1 percent.”  The fact that childhood obesity has more than tripled over the last 30 years should tell schools, and most of all parents, that we need to …
