St. Joe Volleyball Duo Jensen, Gower Named To Under Armour All-American Team

Senior setter Alyssa Jensen was named First-Team All-American, while explosive middle blocker Natalie Gower was named honorable mention.

FRONTENAC -- The postseason honors just keep rolling in for the dynamic duo of St. Joseph's Academy volleyball, Alyssa Jensen and Natalie Gower, who helped lead the Angels to a 30-5 record and district championship this season. Both players were named to the all-conference, all-district, and all-metro teams earlier this month, and Gower was also our selection for Female Fall Sports Patch MVP of the Year. And now this week, it was announced that both Jensen and Gower were named to the Under Armour Girls Volleyball High School All-American Team. Jensen, one of the top schoolgirl setters in the nation, was picked for the First Team and has been invited to play in the Under Armour All-America Volleyball Match & Skills Competition, on December …

St. Joe Volleyball Star Natalie Gower Slams Her Way To Fall Female MVP of the Year Award

Senior will play at TCU next year, after leading Angels to 30-5 record and a trip to the state quarterfinals this season.

FRONTENAC -- In the moments after the most anticipated girls volleyball match of the season, when No. 1-ranked Lafayette hosted No. 2-ranked St. Joseph's Academy in the Class 4 state quarterfinals back on October 27, nearly every member of the Angels squad was in tears following a heart-breaking and season-ending loss to the eventual state champion Lancers. The Angels were heartbroken and disappointed, and every one of them was in tears, except senior outside hitter Natalie Gower. The MWAA Player of the Year, and future Texas Christian University star, who ranked near the area's best in every hitting category this season, including kills (337) and kill percentage (47.9), didn't shed a tear. Despite what might have been going on inside, …

St. Joseph's Academy Celebrates National Signing Day With Nine Seniors That Will Play College Ball Next Year

Volleyball stars Natalie Gower and Alyssa Jensen, and basketball standouts Erin Nelson and Sydney Stipanovich highlight a crew of nine Angels that accepted college scholarships on Wednesday.

FRONTENAC -- Not a single shot was made. Nor were there any backhand winners up the line, nor any kills or digs or assists to keep track of either. Instead, what the excited crowd of 50-something classmates and parents witnessed on Wednesday afternoon in the St. Joseph's Academy atrium was a collective home run knocked out of the park by nine St. Joe seniors, who celebrated National Signing Day, by inking their names on respective National Letters of Intent to play NCAA sports at the college of their choice next year. "It's just a testament to the all the hard work these wonderful girls did over their four years here," St. Joe athletics director Michaela Witcher said, as droves of SJA fans and faithful took turns taking pictures of the …

Valiant St. Joe Volleyball Falls In Sectional Showdown With No. 1 Lafayette

Angels were 30-5 this season, with only local losses coming in two matchups against Lafayette.

WILDWOOD -- For just a moment, the St. Joseph's Academy girls volleyball team thought it had done something no other team this season had done to No. 1-ranked Lafayette. The Angels were ahead 25-24 in set 2 of their MSHSAA Class 4 sectional matchup against the defending state champion Lancers, and for just a second, thought they had won the next point to claim a 26-24 set victory. Lafayette's Melanie Crow had fired a rocket kill attempt that sailed wide of the court, and appeared to give St. Joe the final point it needed to had the Lancers their first set defeat of the season. Crow and the her Lafayette teammates insisted that one of the St. Joe defenders had touched the ball and that the point should be theirs, which would tie the score …

St. Joseph's Claims District Volleyball Championship

Angels won with relative ease over Kirkwood and Ursuline on Wednesday, to improve to 29-4 overall this season. Now they prepare for sectional showdown with No. 1 Lafayette Saturday.

All season long, the two best teams in Missouri girls high school volleyball have been on a collision course to meet one another in what would be a huge sectional round matchup. The only thing holding up a possible No. 1 versus No. 2 showdown would be if either or both of the teams lost in their respective district tournaments. On Tuesday, top-ranked and unbeaten Lafayette did its part by breezing through two opponents to claim the Class 4 District 3 title. That left it up to No. 2 St. Joseph's Academy, to make sure local volleyball fans would get the matchup they've been waiting for. And to the surprise of no one, the Angels made sure Saturday's sectional showdown with Lafayette would happen, by winning their own district championship …

St. Joe Volleyball: Quick 2 Set Win over Rival Visitation Academy

Alyssa Jensen & Natalie Gower and the rest nearing the peak of their game.

The St. Joe  volleyball team seems to be playing with a sense of urgency this season. There definitely seems to be an extra pep in their step. They take the court like ferocious lions. The Angels have rung up a 19-3 record,  losing only to high-flying Lafayette (the season opener) and a couple of national out-of-town teams. Monday afternoon, they made quick work of Visitation Academy, winning in two sets, 25-17 and 25-10. Look for more game photos on the Ladue-Frontenac Facebook Page. The Angels parlay a lot of team work, especially up front with 6-foot-3 Natalie Gower and 5-foot-11 Alyssa Jensen dominating the net, along with Morgan Gresham and Grace Carter. The Angels like to score in spurts of 3 and 4 point runs. Their coach Karen Davis…
