Ladue School District Hoping Next Selected Superintendent Will Be a Winner

Public input is a valuable resource this time as Ladue searches for a new superintendent.

The Ladue school district at one time enjoyed the stability of having two superintendents run the district for the first 58 combined years. That was under the watchful eye of the late Dr. Ivan C. Nicholas and retired Dr. Charles D. McKenna. Then, the revolving door began. The system hired and watched leave quickly Drs. Stewart Weinberg, David Benson and most recently, Marsha Chappelow. District faithful are wondering out loud, if, this time it will be a hit or a miss? Q&A on the Hunt for Ladue Schools' Next Superintendent

School board is using the expertise of a national search firm to help find the district's next superintendent of schools. We talked to Dr. James C. Christman, the firm's representative.

One of the first duties of the new superintendent will be hiring a new principal at Horton Watkins High School, replacing Bridget Hermann, who resigned earlier this year. Patch caught up with James C. “Chris” Christman, a department chair from Pittsburgh State University (Kansas), representing the search firm with this project. Community Forum Last Night at Ladue High to Discuss Hiring of the Next Superintendent

Everyone in the district will have the ability to chime in either by attending meetings; emailing, faxing or writing the search firm.

In accordance with a strict timeline set by the Ladue School Board, a newly-hired superintendent will be in place sometime by the end of February. Working backwards, applications to fill the position vacated by Dr. Marsha Chappelow  are due by January 23 and in a four hour meeting all legitimate candidates will be reviewed by members of the school board on February 5. Contrary to what some might have been thinking, the Ladue School board is conducting a throughly transparent search and seeking input from all parents, teachers, students and district stakeholders.  There are mechanics in place for anyone to comment, even if they missed the public meeting at Ladue High Tuesday night, or the early morning meeting at the district office today…
