The other candidate, Ed Hempstead, Jr. withdrew from the race.
When voters go to the polls in Ladue April 2, there will be just one name on the ballot for mayor. That would be veteran council woman Nancy Spewak. Ed Hempstead, Jr. an insurance executive had filed for office and recently withdrew his name from the race. Spewak will replace Anthony "Tony" Bommarito who decided to step down as mayor after serving one term. Bommarito previously served 10 years as a member of the city council. Spewak is looking forward to working with residents and hearing their thoughs and opinions. Spewak will sit down and talk to Patch in February about her hopes and plans for the city once she takes office.

Administrators coming and going; shops opening and closing; Ladue gets a new mayor and so much more.
Correction: The donation for the new MICDS Math & Science building came from the Danforth family, not the Danforth Foundation. Patch regrets this error. Ah, as your trustworthy Ladue-Frontenac Patch editor, it seems time to look into that crystal ball and see what is going to happen in 2013. A pox on those who say nothing ever happens in Ladue or Frontenac. Here’s some Patchy items heading into the New Year. The Ladue School District will get a new Superintendent. Now that’s earth-shaking. Marsha Chappelow wrapped up a 40 year teaching/supervisory career and headed to Kansas City the very end of November. She asked for, and received her full pay and benefits, though she will be only available for consulting the last seven months of her …

Frontenac showcased its new $10.5 million city complex at the first of two open houses held Thursday afternoon.
From the classic arched windows in the front to the meeting room featuring a new acoustical sound system and high tech video board to the exercise room for the fire and police departments, the city made sure that they covered all the bases. The site formerly housed city hall, the fire department, and police departments in buildings over 50 years old. It was time for a change and to move into the 21st century. Construction on the 37,000 square foot facility began October 2009, and on February 15, 2011, the Board of Aldermen held its first meeting in their new complex. Mayor Keith Krieg said he thought many people were “skeptical of pulling the trigger to do it.” The plans were ready in the fall of 2008 when the economy began to tank. “We …

A new era of government begins with Anthony Bommarito at the helm.
The passing of the guard occurred at the Ladue City Council when Councilman Anthony Bommarito took the city hall reins from Mayor Irene Holmes to become Mayor Bommarito. Holmes thanked the board and city for their support during her tenure and before exiting the dais, said to Bommarito, “If you can make water run uphill when it’s raining, then you’ll do all right.” Bommarito, in turn, thanked Holmes for her role in forwarding the city. He also thanked those who showed their confidence in him by electing him mayor, and for those who did not vote for him, he said he would do his best to gain their confidence. City Administrator Mike Wooldridge read a resolution honoring Holmes and listing her achievements including increasing the property …

Newcomer Mary Berner & Veteran Anthony "Tony" Bommarito Vie for Spot Vacated by Irene Holmes.
Indeed, the race for Mayor for the City of Ladue has been interesting. Airline pilot Mary Berner is challenging local businessman, councilman Anthony "Tony" Bommarito for the top spot in Ladue. Berner filed before the holidays and Bommarito jumped into the race when current Mayor Irene S. Holmes decided it was time to exit and move on. Both candidates feature spirited and passionate followers. Yard signs dot the entire community. Berner has used up a lot of shoe leather going door to door while Bommarito has run an old fashioned campaign with lots of phone calls and meet and greets in people's homes. The race will wrap up on Tuesday, April 5th. Ladue residents will decide if they prefer the old or the new on that date. Here's a pictoral …
