MICDS Hockey Evens Record With Solid Win Over John Burroughs

Junior Peter Condie's two third-period goals help lift Rams to 4-1 victory over Bombers.

MANCHESTER -- The MICDS boys hockey team continued its surge to a possible berth in the Wickenheiser Cup or Challege Cup playoffs this season, by evening its record and winning its second straight game, 4-1, Monday evening at the Queeny Park Ice Rink against Mid-States Central Division rival John Burroughs. The Rams, who are now 7-7-2 this season, and are at least hopeful of earning a spot in the Wick Cup playoffs, with an outside chance at making the upper-level Challenge Cup postseason tournament, were led by junior Peter Condie, who had two goals and senior Matthew Myer who had a goal and two assists in the win for Ladue. Burroughs, which fell to 4-12 on the year, got its lone goal late in the third period, when freshman Ari Padda and …

MICDS Falls To Kirkwood In First Hockey Game Of New Year

Rams were outshot 34-11 by the Pioneers, who got two goals and an assist from sophomore Michael Davies in 3-1 win.

AFFTON -- Even while giving up three times as many shots as they were able to take, the MICDS ice hockey team was just a goal away from securing at least a tie in its New Year's night Mid-States Hockey Association matchup against Kirkwood. So when the Rams were granted a power play with about 90 seconds left in the game, the decision was made for MICDS to pull its goalie and attack the Pioneers with a 6 against 4 advantage. Unfortunately, that ploy didn't work, as Kirkwood sophomore Michael Davies gained possession of the puck inside the MICDS zone, and scored an empty net goal with eight seconds left that gave the Pioneers a hard-fought 3-1 win over the Rams. The defeat was MICDS' third in its last four games, and dropped the Rams to 5-7-…

High School Hockey Season Enters Final Month With Playoffs Looming In February

Ladue, MICDS, and John Burroughs schoolboy hockey clubs shoot for second half winning performances.

The 2012-2013 high school hockey season will hit its home stretch as soon as the calendar hits January, which will mark the beginning of the final month of the regular season. The three levels of playoffs all begin in February, so that means the 40 or so St. Louis area teams that compete in the Mid-States Club Hockey Association have just one month left to prove they deserve a spot in one of the top postseason tournaments -- either the elite Challenge Cup or the Wickenheiser Cup. For those not in the know, the Mid-States Hockey playoffs work a little differently than most other high school sports postseason tournaments. The way it works is like this: the absolute best 16 teams in the area all earn an invite into the Challenge Cup …

MICDS Survives Vianney Onslaught, Snags 3-3 Tie In Late-Night Hockey Matchup

Goalkeeper Cameron Gornet had a spectacular night, with 37 saves to keep the Rams close, while teammates Brandon Klar and Matthew Myer had a hand in all three goals in a 3-3 tie against the Golden Griffins.

AFFTON -- A late-night Mid-States Hockey Association matchup of two clubs trying desperately to get back to the .500 mark ended in a stalemate, Monday at the Affton Ice Rink, as MICDS and Vianney played to a 3-3 tie. The Rams, who came in with a 3-4-1 mark on the year, but were 2-1-1 in their last four games, endured a barrage of shots and scoring chances from the high-flying Golden Griffins, who entered the night with a 2-6-2 record. But MICDS was able to withstand the Vianney onslaught, thanks to junior goalkeeper Cameron Gornet, who made 37 saves, including a pair of dynamite stops late in the third period to preserve the tie. Offensively, forwards Brandon Klar and Matthew Myer each had a hand in all three MICDS goals, with Klar …

MICDS Falters In Mid-States Hockey Opener Against Chaminade

Chaminade sophomore Trey Dodd had three goals and an assist, as Red Devils romp over Rams 12-2.

MANCHESTER -- For the MICDS hockey team, opening the 2012-2013 season against one of the area's best teams, nearby rival Chaminade Prep, has a certain upside, but also comes with a potentially tremendous downside. On the positive end, the Rams get to gauge exactly where they stand as a club in their first game of the season, in a matchup against a Chaminade team many believe could contend for the Mid-States Hockey Association Challenge Cup title at the end of the year. The problem there though, is if MICDS isn't quite ready for a matchup against Chaminade, then the Rams could be in for a long night against an elite-level club like the Red Devils. And unfortunately for MICDS, Saturday night's season-opening meeting turned out to be the …
