Senior Grzeskoviak ranked in the top 10 in nearly every goalkeeping category, and helped lead Saints 18-6 record and an appearance in the state tournament semifinals.
Maggie Grzeskoviak is the standout goalkeeper for the Villa Duchesne field hockey team. This season, Grzeskoviak helped lead Villa to an 18-6 record, and a trip to the state tournament semifinals. And this past week, in one of our closest votes ever, the Villa senior was the leading vote-getter in our weekly Athlete of the Week poll. Soccer, field hockey, and cross country where were we found this week's Athlete of the Week candidates. Ballot will be available until 5 p.m. Thursday.
Voting is now officially open for this week's Patch MVP "Athlete of the Week" award. In a different kind of week, each of our candidates would probably be a landslide winner for the Patch MVP honor, but with so much talent locally participating in so many different sports, it's going to be difficult to choose a winner. We encourage all fans to make sure their favorite athlete is represented by voting in this week's poll. The ballot will be available until 5 p.m. on Thursday, and we'll annouce the winner on Sunday. Nominees for Athlete of the Week include district cross country champion Amos Bartelsmeyer, the entire St. Joe state championship tennis team, and a set of field hockey and soccer standouts that will be seeking playoff victories this week.
We've hit the double-digit mark of the 2012-2130 high school sports season, and with it Week 10 brings us a full-slate of playoff action in football, field hockey, cross country, and soccer. Locally, the soccer district tournament will feature semifinal and championship games at MICDS on Tuesday and Thursday. While the field hockey and cross country state championship events are slated for Saturday, in Fenton and Jefferson City, respectively. The high school ice hockey season also gets underway this week, making it the first of the winter sports to officially get going, with basketball, wrestling, and girls swimming soon to follow.
