Bridget Condie scores the game winner with a perfect pass from Claire Ringenberg.
It took a shade under 85 minutes, but the MICDS girls soccer team won the battle of Ladue, defeating the visiting Ladue Rams 2-1 in overtime. This was a see-saw match that could have gone either way. Billed as the battle of the year, the combatants did not disappoint. The play and intensity increased as the game went on. See game photos on the Ladue-Frontenac Facebook page. Both sides featured great runs, hard shots; physical play and great goal tending. While Fran Shannon was making point-blank saves on the Ladue end, both Liz Lewis and Ines Oulamine were brilliant in nets for MICDS. Ladue got the initial goal of the game at 34:25, Natasha Medler zinged in a free kick some 35 yards over the outstretched hands of Lewis. The Ladue Rams were…

Find out why we could use a little help as we make preparations for a new project later this month.
At Patch, we're doing a little summer construction. Our team has been busy working on a new-look platform that we think is going to be a big improvement for users. If you want a sneak-peek of what it looks like, check out our east coast colleagues at Mineola Patch or New Hyde Park Patch for a frame of reference. But here's where I need your help. The new-look site will need a photo that will run at the top of every page. What image screams Ladue or Frontenac to you? Is it the Ladue City Hall? Ladue High School? Rhodes Park? Give me some feedback, since I want the photos to be a reflection of what you think best represents the city. Better yet, we'd also like your photo suggestions. All we ask is that you only provide photos you own, and …

Vikings are 16-3 this season. Joey Reeves pitches a 4-hit gem over the Rams.
The Parkway North-Ladue baseball game was kind of like a 4th of July performance. While the North Vikings exploded like a bottle rocket, Ladue mostly fizzled like a cherry bomb with a bad fuse. “We really didn’t get anything going, this just wasn’t our day,” said Ladue’s coach Rob Garrett, trudging off the field after a 6-0 whitewash at the hands of the 16-3 Vikings. Ladue fell to 15-3. Sophomore lefty Joey Reeves went six innings and limited Ladue to just 4 scattered hits. The Vikings have been battled tested this year with two wins over Summit (last year’s state champs, winners over North in the title game); Parkway South, Parkway Central Troy (2 wins), Kirkwood, Hazelwood Central and Burroughs. The Vikings are really busy Coach Fred …

Rebirth of a center will bring significant impact to the community at large.
Give me a “D,” give me an “E,” give me an “S,”.... Sounds really silly calling on a high school cheer for a property development corporation. But let’s give credit where credit is due. DESCO Properties, developer of Schnucks Markets throughout the Midwest is putting the cherry on the topping of one of the most beautiful and purposeful shopping centers anywhere in the region. The Colonial MarketPlace in Ladue (and part of Clayton) serves as a front-door entrance to the city. The shabby Lammert’s Center, home of long-gone Wild Oats Market and other failed projects are a mere fleeting memory. And the pieces fell into place so fast. DESCO bought this foreclosed property from the bank, pumping new life into the center for a first-class shopping…

Full service company the brainchild of local aquatics director.
Growing up in South Central New Jersey, Stephane’ Rebeck McCormick never dreamed her life’s work would be around water safety. But funny how those things work out. McCormick has always been attached to the water. At age 14, she illegally got her water safety certification, (September birthday) and the pool director quietly waited to give that to her at the legal age of 15. A resident of Atlanta, New York and St. Louis, McCormick has been working in and around the pools of the area for years. She’s made pool safety a career for 25 years. Right after there was a Ladue drowning in May of 2009, she launched her own independent service Backyard Lifeguards. This entrepreneurial company, based in Clayton offers lifeguards for backyard swim …

Massive community garage sale is a major fundraiser for the school each spring.
If you are driving in the area of Clayton and Price roads Saturday and if you are not looking for one of those fabulous discount deals at Potpourri on the campus of John Burroughs, you might want to find an alternative route. By 7:30 a.m., the doors swing wide open on the biggest shopping event of the year each year at this historic school in Ladue. Jennifer McDonnell, Kris Milner and Janet Rogers are graciously serving as tri-chairs of this event. It takes a full year to pull off a successful Potpourri. Burroughs has three annual fundraisers and this is the largest of the three. The money is generally a gift to the operating budget; a gift to a capital fund (with one currently underway) and a gift to the faculty wish list for items that …
