St. Joseph's Academy wins its opener and will play Nerinx Hall for the district championship Friday night.
The Ladue girls basketball team had a record-breaking regular season, winning 22 games. But the Rams would go winless in the post-season after falling in the Class 5 District 3 semifinals to Nerinx Hall 62-46 Tuesday night at Webster Groves High School. "They shot the ball a lot better than I gave them credit for," Ladue Coach Cord Dockery said. "I was concerned coming into the game with their second and third shots." But Tuesday night Nerinx Hall was hitting a lot of its first shots, especially Lexi Cochran. The junior guard scored 32 points. "We just could not guard No. 45 (Cochran)," Dockery said. "We tried three different girls on her. She just had one of those games." Things started well for the Rams, who scored the game's first …

The Angels are the top seed in the Class 5 District 3 Tournament at Webster while MICDS is seeded first at the Class 4 District 6 Tournament at Clayton.
The MICDS girls basketball team concluded the most successful regular season in school history Thursday night with a 51-45 victory over Principia. The Rams finished with a 21-1 record which eclipsed the previous best record of 19-7 which they set last season. "It was a great regular season," MICDS junior Campbell Torchin said. "But we can't go into districts thinking we are 21-1. This is a brand new season and everyone is 0-0." And there is little chance that the Rams will not be ready for districts as their lone loss of the season came against Westminster Christian, which is seeded second behind MICDS. "I think it will help with our motivation if we get to play them again," MICDS Coach Scott Small said. "We played them in their gym after …

The Rams defeated Clayton 55-26 for their 20th victory of the season Friday night at Washington University.
Pie was not on the menu Friday night for the Ladue girls basketball team, at least not the kind they had Tuesday night. The Rams had their perfect season and 19-game winning streak halted in dramatic and embarrassing fashion by Whitfield. The Warriors hit nine 3-point field goals in the first half en route to a 55-31 victory. "We ate some humble pie in that one," Ladue Coach Cord Dockery said. "The girls just thought that they could lace up the high tops and go out there and win. We had just come off a big win against Jennings and Jennings had beaten Whitfield so they thought that meant a win for us." It was a lesson which was learned, at least by the Rams' performance in their rivalry game with Clayton Friday night. Ladue led from start …

The Rams capture the Affton Tournament to remain undefeated.
The Ladue girls basketball team won their third tournament of the 2010-11 season last week. The Rams, who had previously won championships at the Fox Tournament and Hancock Tournament, won the eight-team Affton Tournament. Ladue defeated Hancock, Lutheran South and rival Clayton en route to the championship. The Rams won in the semifinals over Lutheran South despite one of their top scorers, Lauren Maclin, missing all 12 of her field goal attempts and the team shooting just 40 percent from the line (10-of-25). "That was the worst four quarters we have put together all year and yet we found a way to make it to the championship game," Ladue Coach Cord Dockery said. "We played much better in that game." Ladue built a big lead and then played …

St. Joseph's Academy, MICDS and Ladue Girls All Make the List.
Area girls basketball teams continue to shine which is evidenced by three of the five teams in the Ladue-Frontenac Patch coverage area being ranked in the top 10 in the latest Missouri basketball rankings. St. Joseph's Academy and Ladue are ranked third and eighth respectively in Class 5 while MICDS is ranked third in Class 4. The two Rams' teams (Ladue and MICDS) remain undefeated at 12-0 for the season. "I know the girls are excited about the ranking," Ladue Coach Cord Dockery said. "I try not to get too involved with it myself. Regardless of the rankings our main goal is to try and win our conference which Ladue has not done since maybe 2001-02 and then we will have to shift our focus to districts and see how we do there." Ladue has …

MICDS and Ladue Win Tournaments and Remain Unbeaten.
The four area basketball teams which competed in holiday tournaments finished with an impressive cumulative record of 11-2. One of the losses came in a head-to-head area match-up while the other was a one point loss by St. Joseph's Academy. MICDS and Ladue won tournaments and in the process remained perfect as they completed the 2010 portion of their schedule. MICDS won the Lutheran South Holiday Tournament for the first time. The Rams defeated Clayton, Oakville and Villa Duchesne en route to the championship. "It was exciting for the kids but we never made it a goal to win this tournament," MICDS Coach Scott Small said. Campbell Torchin and Delaney Hobbs were named to the All-Tournament team at Lutheran South. Torchin, a sharp-shooting …

Lauren Maclin and Taylor Robinson combine for 44 points in Tournament Victory.
Something had to give Wednesday in the championship game of the Hancock Holiday Girls Basketball Tournament. Ladue came into the contest with a perfect 9-0 record while Crystal City had won eight straight after a season-0pening loss to Ste. Genevieve. It was Ladue which saw its streak continue with a dominant second half effort in a 70-47 victory. "We have had a good 2010 portion of the season and now we have to focus on 2011," Ladue Coach Cord Dockery said. "We need to work on some things as we get ready for conference play and the rest of the season." The Rams got stellar inside play with their twin towers. Six-foot-three Taylor Robinson scored 20 points, 12 of them coming in the first half. Lauren Maclin, who is 5-foot-10, scored 20 or …
