Junior QB Matthew Hooper leads the way with 305 passing yards and four touchdowns, as Ladue rampages over Jennings, 49-6.
Coming off a disappointing loss at Fort Zumwalt North last week, the Ladue High football team bounced back in a big way Saturday afternoon against league rival Jennings High. The Rams looked re-energized and re-focused in 49-6 Senior Day romp over the visiting Warriors in the final regular season game of the year at Ladue’s Ramming Athletic Center. Junior quarterback Matthew Hooper, who completed just seven-of-20 passes against Zumwalt North, was as sharp as he’d been all season against Jennings, connecting on 18-of-23 passes for 305 yards and four touchdowns. Hooper threw three of those scores in the first half, as the Rams built a 28-0 halftime lead. Senior running backs Shawn Whitley and Marcellis Wade each had a short touchdown run to …

Series of penalties ranging from clipping to holding to going off sides hurt Clayton's chances.
Ladue’s football coach Mike Tarpey got a double dose of good news Friday night. For one, his gritty Rams outlasted Clayton in a slugfest, winning 28-21 on Centenne Field on Gay Avenue. More importantly, he got a good medical report on injured Jaron Jones from the hospital before he left the field. Injury silenced a large crowd Midway through the game, Jones came dead aim across the field to tackle a loose Greyhound runner. The G-force of the collision reverberated across the Clayton sideline. Jones sat up momentarily, then lapsed unconscious. Clayton EMS arrived very quickly and took the motionless senior to an area hospital. The news from the hospital was all good. He probably woke up with a very sore neck on Sunday. The Rams had to …

Not able to show much impact in a run-first offense.
The Maze N Brew website reports on the Michigan receiving corp during the off week. Last week, the Wolverines lost to the Irish of Notre Dame at South Bend. Here's what the website has to say about Jehu Chesson, first-year receiver from Ladue High.

Ladue goes to Affton tonight; MICDS travels to Lutheran North Saturday.
Now things get interesting for the Ladue-Frontenac-Olivette area football teams. Ladue goes to Affton tonight, 7 p.m. kickoff and the Cougars have just one win. The (5-0) Burroughs Bombers go into the meat grinder portion of their schedule with a 1 p.m. kickoff Saturday at Westminster Christian Academy. Reeling MICDS meets Lutheran North Saturday at their place, kickoff is 1 p.m. Here’s a sneak peak at the weekend action: (3-2) Ladue at (1-4) Affton, Friday, 7 p.m. Mike Tarpey has helped the Rams find their mo jo. After getting demolished by a gritty McCluer team, the Rams won Home Coming 42-14 over Normandy. The Rams look often to younger players to stand in, Junior quarterback Matthew Hooper is a 43 percent passes, recording 477 yards, 4…

Rams score early and often and win over visiting Normandy Vikings.
Give credit to the Ladue scheduler. The Rams hosted the Normandy Vikings for Home Coming and pulled off a resounding 42-14 victory. That wears a lot better than a 42-6 loss to McCluer at home just seven days ago. The Rams spread around the love. Junior quarterback Matthew Hooper threw 2 TD passes and ran for another. Marcellis Wade scored on a 2 yard run; Adehkeem Brown gathered a 30 yard pass from Hooper and the Rams had a 14 point halftime lead. In the second half, Sam Glancy caught a 30 yard TD pass from Hooper and Hooper ran one in from 15 yards out. In the fourth quarter Shawn Whitley scored on a 15 yard run and Udell Hyde closed out the scoring with a 6 yard gallop in the fourth quarter. Sophomore Jack Fox tacked on six extra points…

Ladue hosts Normandy for homecoming Saturday; MICDS hosts Burroughs next.
This article has been updated with the correct MICDS scoring summary: It was a tough day Saturday for the local football teams. While Ladue was getting clobbered by McCluer 42-6 at home, the Rams of MICDS lost at Priory 42-21. Ladue heads into homecoming with a 2-2 record against Normandy while (1-3) MICDS has the unenviable task of tangling with 4-0 John Burroughs at home Saturday. The Ladue game kicks off at 1 p.m. and the MICDS-Burroughs game at 2 p.m. Ladue yielded 42 points in the first half versus the Comets, then outscored them 6-0 in the final two quarters. Here’s what the action looked like on the Ladue home field. Priory 42, MICDS 21 This was another long day for the visiting Rams. This is how the Rams got their points: Denzell …

MICDS hosts Lutheran South while Ladue Goes to McCluer South-Berkeley.
Secretly, John Burroughs football team would probably like a tougher test than they’ve had so far this season. They have steam rolled Cape Girardeau Central 43-14 and whitewashed Lutheran South, 35-0 in a game shortened by the storm last Friday. (2-0) Burroughs vs Priory (1-1), home Friday, 4:30 p.m. Running back Ezekiel Elliott (8 touchdowns in two games) needs a true test. Priory could offer just that. The Rebels got wacked by Alton Marquette 55-31 but beat up on Lutheran North 51-7. The Rebels have some seasoned veterans. Like Thomas Rybuck, a hard-charging runner who has 5 TDs in two games. Quarterback David Nogalski is 21 of 29 passing for 294 yards. Priory return specialist John Agnew has 156 yards of real estate so far. Burroughs …

Shawn Whitley scores a pair of TD runs in the game to right the record at 1-1.
Swimsuits, floaties, inner tubes, goggles, beach balls -- sounds like a day at the pool. But it was hardly that, or a day at the beach for the Parkway West Longhorns (0-2) football team Friday night. Ladue won the game, 41-7. In the nearly continuous rainfall Friday while St. Louis received backlashes from the dissipating Hurricane Isaac weather pattern, plans for athletic competitions altered throughout the area. Football remained at Parkway West. The Longhorns cheering section decided to make the most of the weather and, knowing they would get drenched anyway, came decked out in swimwear, ponchos and other beach party notables. "We decided to make it a beach theme," said Victoria Bezzole, a senior on the Parkway West poms team leading …

Augie Brooks scores three times in non-league opener for both squads.
Two years running, Ladue and Parkway Central have opened their football season under the lights on the Colts synthetic turf. The players are somewhat different; the results much the same. Last year Central prevailed 31-14 and this year it was all Parkway Central, 42-17. Junior quarterback Zach Lazenby came up a fraction short of the end zone at the conclusion of a 20-yard ramble at the first half or it might have been worse. Junior rusher Augie Brooks crossed the goal line three times for the Colts (runs of 6, 9, and 21); Jack Buschman scored on runs of 6 and 83 and Lazenby plunged for 1 to salt away the victory. Ladue got its points on a Shawn Whitely 21-yard run; a 7 yard run by Udell Hyde late in the game and a 25 yard field goal by …

(continued) Mr. Baer in no way deserves the over-the-top criticisms I posted regarding his work and for that, I am sorry. Similarly, I want to apologize to the Burroughs community for not representing the school in a manner that reflects the tremendous education I received during my time there. Finally, I feel it is important for readers to know that it is possible for multiple users to comment …   more ›
