St. Joe Cruises Into District Finals With Easy 6-2 Win Over Ursuline

2 goals for Kaley Nieters in the second half. Angels face either Webster or Nerinx in the finals Wednesday,

There are differences between St. Joe and Ursuline Academy soccer teams. For one, St. Joe does not have to play its freshman goal keeper; Ursuline does. Ursuline freshman keeper Jaime Spath was tested early and often and the Angels peppered the Bear nets for a relatively easy 6-2 district semifinal win. The Angels have a fine freshman themselves in Rosie Breheny, but they start with sophomore Kelsey Ponder who has more experience. The win sets up the Angels (15-2) against Webster Groves, 1-0 winner over Nerinx Hall. The Angels-Webster game will be played on the Angels' home turf Wednesday at 4 o’clock. Hot or cold, sunny or not, the Angels keep on rolling. Six different attackers scored in the home win. Kaley Nieters notched a key second-…

Kaley Nieters: MVP, a Future Cyclone

Announced for Iowa State, this junior forward leads St. Joe in scoring and assists.

Kaley Nieters is this week's Ladue-Frontenac-Olivette MVP "Athlete of the Week." She got great voting support from the St. Joseph's Academy school community. Nieters has 7 goals, 6 assists for 20 points and the Angels, who just defeated Cor Jesu are 8-1. They won their division of the St. Louis Classic last weekend. This is what Nieters had to say to Patch: Patch.com: How has your season progressed? Kaley Nieters: I think our season is off to a great start.  We have been coming out firing, scoring early and often and not allowing many.  I believe that everyone on my team has something to contribute and we have worked well as a unit. I hope our success continues and I am excited for the rest of this season because I think we are going to go…

Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death

St. Joe Angels sends Kansas City team home to prom night with a loss.

The Liberty Missouri girls soccer team has to be the cleanest team in the state. They got to take not one but two sets of showers, following a 3-1 loss at St. Joseph’s Academy Saturday. The Angels handed the visiting Lady Jays a bar of soap, and they slipped on it big time, surrendering s 1-1 halftime tie for a 3-1 loss. “We sure didn’t want to go overtime, but I would have taken it,” said Liberty coach Tom Rottjakob. Undoubtedly, the girls behind him wanted no part of that. The Lady Jays had a tough three days in St. Louis, losing all three matches, including 6-2 to Incarnate Word. “I think the Knights were furious. We beat them earlier this week,” said Angels sophomore midfielder Alli Magaletta. The Angels scored twice within a brief …

Prom Cuts Into Lineup for St. Joe Angels

St. Joe gets 5-2 win over rival Visitation Academy before heading to K.C.

The St. Joe Angel’s soccer team is on the road in Kansas City this weekend. Last night, the Angels played St. James Academy and today, they face Blue Valley Northwest, the No. 1 ranked team in Kansas. But the Angels were not playing with a full compliment of players. Prom was last night, so the seniors were excused from the trip. Thursday, some of the young players came through and St. Joe beat rival Visitation Academy 5-2 on their home field. Sophomore Kaley Nieters played a whale of a game. She scored two goals, one on a header in the second half. Junior Haley Kavanaugh scored a first half goal and assisted on two others. What they were most proud of was the way they defended. They marked Viz’ high scoring forward junior Jade Klump like …
