Ladue Hockey Nets First Win of Mid-States Hockey Season With Big Win Over Pattonville

Sophomore Ian Thomsen moves up from backline to star at center, with three goals in Rams romp over Pirates.

ST. PETERS -- With both teams playing with short benches and small rosters, the Ladue High hockey team earned its first win of the season Saturday night, with an 8-2 rout over Pattonville High, at the St. Peters Rec-Plex South ice facility. The Rams, who were playing without leading scorer Matthew Gould and top goaltender Elliot Shevitz, got big games from underclassmen stand-ins Ian Thomsen and Graham Gausnell that no one could've predicted before the game began. Thomsen, a sophomore defenseman-turned-centerman on Saturday, netted a hat trick to lead the Ladue offense, while the freshman Gausnell made his first high school start in goal a memorable one, by stopping 18 Pattonville shots to pick up his first high school victory. Ladue Opens New Mid-States Hockey Season With Hard-Fought Loss To Ft. Zumwalt East

MANCHESTER -- After winning the Founders' Cup championship last year, which goes to the winners of the Mid-States Hockey Association's third-level playoffs, the Ladue High hockey team returned to the ice on Friday, to officially open its 2012-2013 season. And although the Rams played a dynamite final two periods at the Queeny Park Ice Rink against a talented, elite-level club from Ft. Zumwalt East High, Ladue couldn't overcome its rough start in the first seven minutes of the season and lost its season opener to the Lions, 6-3.   "It's a new season, and it's the first game, and we we're still trying to figure some things out," Ladue head coach Jon Hodgins said, after his Rams gave up three goals in the first seven minutes to fall behind 3-…

Senior Night For Ladue, John Burroughs Hockey Programs Ends With Solid Win For the Rams

Article Update: Seedings for the Mid-States Hockey Association playoffs were announced late Sunday night, with the top 16 teams in the state earning a berth a the elite St. Louis Blues Challenge Cup bracket.  The top 16 second-tier teams were seeded in the Wickenheiser Cup bracket, with the bottom 10 teams landing in the Founder’s Cup bracket.  Ladue was named the No. 3 seed in the Founder’s Cup, and Burroughs was selected as the No. 7 seed. Game schedules for the Mid-States Hockey playoffs will be announced on Monday, with a strong likelihood that Ladue and Burroughs will be seeded on the same side of the bracket, and could possibly face each other in the first round beginning on Thursday or Friday.
