Eric Lewis Invitational Produces Tough Competition For Area's Best Wrestling Prospects

Wentzville Holt claims first-place team honors, with St. Charles West, McCluer North, Whitfield, and Ladue rounding out top five.

One of the area's best annual high school wrestling tournaments took over MICDS High School last weekend, as the 47th Annual Eric Lewis Invitational went off with non-stop action featuring many of the best schoolboy grapplers from all over the area. Some of the area's best teams also appeared, with state title contenders St. Charles West, McCluer North, and Whitfield all making strong showings at one of the season's last great tune-up tournaments before districts begin in two weeks. The three local programs also did well, with Ladue finishing fifth overall, and MICDS and John Burroughs claiming 14th and 15th place respectively, out of 19 teams. Neither team was able to produce any individual champions, but Ladue did get a pair of third-…

High School Hockey Roundup: MICDS, Ladue Might Make Wick Cup Playoffs, JBS Will Play In Founder's Cup Bracket

MICDS and Ladue will meet in huge Monday night matchup at Queeny Park, while Burroughs won't play until Friday, when it meets Ft. Zumwalt South at the Brentwood Ice Arena.

The home stretch of the Mid-States Hockey Association regular season is definitely upon us. And with just over two weeks left until the start of the playoffs, only a few of the area's near 50 hockey-playing clubs know for sure which post-season tournament they're going to be in. John Burroughs is one of those clubs. The Bombers, 4-14 with just three games left on the schedule, already know no matter how they close out the regular season, that they'll be playing in the Founder's Cup playoffs with 12-15 other developing club hockey programs. JBS was 4-17 last year, and hoped to improve their record this year, and maybe earn a berth in the next level up Wickenheiser Cup (Wick Cup) playoffs. Unfortunately, that's not going to happen this year…

Big Night Of Local Hoops Includes Doubleheader At MICDS, Ladue In Championship Game At CBC

Bombers' and Rams' boys and girls will begin the night with double-dip at McDonnell, while No. 7 Ladue hopes to play giant-killer against No. 2 CBC.

The first big night of the high school hoops season comes tonight, with a trio of big ballgames featuring some of the best teams from the Ladue-Frontenac-Olivette area. On a city-wide scale, most eyes will be trained on the championship game of the DC Wilcutt Tournament out at CBC High School in Town and Country, where the Ladue High boys will take on the No. 2-ranked CBC Cadets at 8 p.m. CBC was the area's preseason No. 1, with at least three top college prospects on their roster, including 6'7 swingman Jordan Barnett, 6'6 power forward Ray Doby, and 6'6 shooting guard Patrick McCaw. The Cadets lost their No. 1 ranking after falling in the championship game of the Meramec Tournament to Hazelwood Central back on December 30. Since then, …

Ezekiel Elliott's Return, Early Fast Break Jam Helps Carry John Burroughs To Victory Over Principia

Senior three-sport star was gone for a week, preparing for and playing in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl football game in San Antonio, but came back on Tuesday to lead JBS to a 64-54 win over Prin.

After spending what he termed a "life-changing" week in San Antonio for the U.S. Army All-American Bowl high school football all-star game, which was played last Saturday at the Alamodome and televised nationally by NBC, John Burroughs senior Ezekiel Elliott was just hoping not to look too rusty in his first basketball game back with the Bombers on Tuesday. Elliott, a football star for the Bombers, who will play collegiately at Ohio State University next year, flew back to St. Louis on Sunday, and only had time for one practice with the team before Tuesday's key Metro League conference game against rival Principia. Fortunately for the Bombers, Elliott was able to shake off any rust he might have had pretty quickly, thanks to a resounding …

MICDS Hockey Evens Record With Solid Win Over John Burroughs

Junior Peter Condie's two third-period goals help lift Rams to 4-1 victory over Bombers.

MANCHESTER -- The MICDS boys hockey team continued its surge to a possible berth in the Wickenheiser Cup or Challege Cup playoffs this season, by evening its record and winning its second straight game, 4-1, Monday evening at the Queeny Park Ice Rink against Mid-States Central Division rival John Burroughs. The Rams, who are now 7-7-2 this season, and are at least hopeful of earning a spot in the Wick Cup playoffs, with an outside chance at making the upper-level Challenge Cup postseason tournament, were led by junior Peter Condie, who had two goals and senior Matthew Myer who had a goal and two assists in the win for Ladue. Burroughs, which fell to 4-12 on the year, got its lone goal late in the third period, when freshman Ari Padda and …

No Zeke, No Problem: Burroughs Moves to 11-0 Despite Being One Man Short In Showdown With Lutheran North

Foye Oluokun drops a triple-double, and Trevor Bain knocks down seven three-pointers in sensational JBS win over rival Lutheran North.

The entire John Burroughs community is abuzz over football star Ezekiel Elliott's trip to San Antonio this week for the U.S. Army All-American Bowl football game that will kickoff in front of a national audience at high noon today. Just about anyone with any type of tie to JBS is expected to attend one of the many "Zeke Elliott watch parties" on Saturday, so they can see first-hand how the Burroughs senior does in his first chance to play on a national stage. About the only negative part of Elliott being in San Antonio this weekend, is that meant he would have to miss the JBS home basketball game against rival Lutheran North, Friday night at historic Olin Gymnasium. That left the remaining Burroughs basketball players with a particularly …

High School Hockey Season Enters Final Month With Playoffs Looming In February

Ladue, MICDS, and John Burroughs schoolboy hockey clubs shoot for second half winning performances.

The 2012-2013 high school hockey season will hit its home stretch as soon as the calendar hits January, which will mark the beginning of the final month of the regular season. The three levels of playoffs all begin in February, so that means the 40 or so St. Louis area teams that compete in the Mid-States Club Hockey Association have just one month left to prove they deserve a spot in one of the top postseason tournaments -- either the elite Challenge Cup or the Wickenheiser Cup. For those not in the know, the Mid-States Hockey playoffs work a little differently than most other high school sports postseason tournaments. The way it works is like this: the absolute best 16 teams in the area all earn an invite into the Challenge Cup …

Local Teams Make Strong Showings At Holiday Hoops Tournaments All Over The City

John Burroughs boys, Ladue girls, and MICDS girls all were perfect over the break, and will head into the new year with sparkling new tournament titles.

Now that the holiday high school hoops season is over, and most teams have completed the 2012 portion of their schedules, it's time to take a quick look back at what the eight Ladue-Frontenac-Olivette area teams did during the break. Just about everybody played in some type of holiday hoops event or tournament, with three of the local teams going perfect run and winning the tournament they were playing in. The most surprising of the tournament championship wins was turned in by the girls from Ladue High, who pulled off one of the great upsets of the first half of the season, by knocking off previously unbeaten and No. 8 ranked Ritenour High, last Friday afternoon in the championship game of the first ever Ritenour Holiday Tournament. The …

Bain's Cool Under Pressure Carries John Burroughs To Chaminade Tourney Title For Second Straight Year

Senior guard knocked down two huge shots in the final minute of regulation to bring Bombers back from seven points down, in eventual 50-46 overtime win over Pattonville.

CREVE COEUR -- With just over one minute left in the fourth quarter of Saturday’s Chaminade Christmas Tournament championship game against Pattonville, John Burroughs senior Trevor Bain had made just one shot. He’d only taken two shots the entire game at that point, and had spent most of the night helping set up the Bomber offense, while also playing superb defense against the Pirates litany of ultra-quick guards. But with his team down by seven points, and so close to possibly suffering their first loss of the season, Bain stepped up and knocked down two clutch long range shots that helped Burroughs force overtime. Then with the game close again in OT, Bain made three pressure-packed free throws with less than 40 seconds left, that gave …

Burroughs Football Star Ezekiel Elliott In San Antonio For U.S. Army All-American Bowl

JBS senior is flying to Texas on Sunday morning, after being selected to play in the nation’s premier high school football all-star game, which will be televised nationwide on January 5 on NBC.

While many of his teammates and classmates will be celebrating New Year’s in the typical fashion high school kids do, John Burroughs football star Ezekiel Elliott will be ringing in 2013 in a way very few ever get to do. The JBS senior, who starred as a running back/kick returner for a Bombers teams that made three straight trips to the Missouri Class 3 state championhip game, and amassed more than 3,000 all-purpose yards and scored 50 touchdowns this past season alone, has been invited to play in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl on January 5 at the Alamodome in San Antonio. Elliott, a unanimous choice for the Ladue-Frontenac Patch Fall MVP Burroughs Star dominates the state track meet in Jeff City The U.S. Army All-American Bowl, which is …
