MICDS Rams Looking For All Kinds of New Talent

The Rams went 14-1 and to the Show Me Bowl title game a year ago.

Someone might ask MICDS football coach Josh Smith to walk on a bed of hot coals. That might be easier than trying to replace the two-dozen seniors who took his team to a 14-1 record and a shot at the Class 4 Show Me Bowl state title. MICDS had three division 1 players: Michael Scherer (Mizzou), Thomas Militello (Dartmouth) and Jack Howell (Brown University). That’s a lot for a school with a moderate enrollment. "The Rams graduated a deep and talented senior class and watching players move on to the next level, there will probably be some growing pains," said Smith. Scherer rushed for 1324 yards and 24 touchdowns on the ground and led the defense as an all star middle linebacker. He’s taken his ample talents to play for Mizzou’s Tigers in …

Call It Official: MICDS' Jack Kurzu Will Become an Oklahoma State Cowboy

Giant junior tackle decides early after reviewing more than 20 schools.

Bob Kurzu played tackle for the University of Florida team in the Charlie Pell era of the 1980s. But that wasn’t enough to convince his son Jack, 6-foot-4, 305 pound tackle from MICDS to head to the swamp. After looking over some 20 college choices, Jack Kurzu donned the orange baseball cap of the Oklahoma State Cowboys, much to the delight of his friends and teammates. Kurzu made it official on Wednesday before a gathering of teammates from the Rams football program. Kurzu is considering plans to enrolling at Stillwater for spring football and those issues remain to be settled. The offers were wide ranging. His shopping list included Harvard, Yale, Hawaii, Troy, Indiana, Mizzou, Illinois, Miami of Florida, Ball State and many others. “I …

Witzen, Jack is a Senior, not junior. In fact, he may be eligible to graduate early. This kid is special. He has more pancakes than IHOP. I can't wait for Saturday. I don't think you have to worry about his academic credentials. My daughter is a classmate. We visited a number of very selective colleges this summer. All of them told her they would be adjusting her GPA upwards because of the rigor …   more ›

Signing of Dorial Green-Beckham Sends Mizzou Fans Into Delirium

Tigers ink the top receiver prospect in America and the third best player in the land.

In full disclosure, I’m a graduate of the University of Missouri-Columbia, and an over-the-top Mizzou Tiger Fan. I do bleed black and gold. So when Dorial Green-Beckham, wonder-kid from Hillcrest High School in Springfield doffed the Tiger ball cap and declared himself a future Tiger before his school mates and a national audience on ESPNU Wednesday morning, I was ecstatic to say the least. Mizzou’s coach Gary Pinkel has been building towards this day for more than a decade. Green-Beckham can rest comfortably, knowing that Pinkel and assistant coaches will be around just as long as he is as a student/athlete in Columbia. It would have been easy to pick the Razorback hat. Fayetteville, AR is closer by miles than his 170 mile jaunt to …
