Angels take second place at Viz for the third straight year, after losing to the Red Knights, who claimed their fifth straight Viz tourney title.
TOWN AND COUNTRY -- An intense, back-and-forth battle for the coveted championship trophy of the Visitation Academy Holiday Girls Basketball Tournament turned inside out against St. Joseph’s Academy on Friday. The Angels were ahead 9-8 at the end of the first quarter, and even enjoyed a brief 11-10 lead early in the second quarter. But from that point on, the No. 1-ranked team in all of St. Louis area girls basketball -- Incarnate Word Academy -- controlled every aspect of the game, and was able to ease its way to a 49-34 win over St. Joe. Incarnate, which is now 10-0 and has been ranked as high as No. 10 in the nation by ESPN and other high school girls basketball polls, took control by outscoring the Angels 14-3 in the second quarter. Brice Bement, in substitute role puts on a pitching clinic for St. Joe Angels.
Sometimes St. Joe softball coach J.P. Cummings has to miss a game for night school. He is working on his advanced degree. Laura Flowers has filled in twice so far. She is a perfect one thousand percent as substitute coach, winning both games at the controls of the ship. The most recent came Tuesday night. The Angels jumped all over rival Incarnate Word Pitcher Megan Flynn for a convincing 12-5 league win, improving the record to 5-6 this busy fall. They are halfway through their season. “We won the first time I took over by two (runs), this one was thrilling,” beamed Flowers, moments after coming off Gamma Tree Service field on the Normandy campus. Maybe Flowers will be inducted into the SJA Hall of Fame with that perfect mark? “That …

Senior hitter Carly Ochs paced Angels offense with 11 kills in 25-16, 25-18 match win.
BEL-NOR – The defending Class 4 state volleyball champion St. Joseph’s Academy Angels looked every bit like the best team in the land Tuesday evening, when it swept away a two sets to none victory over host Incarnate Word Academy in front of a raucous crowd of several hundreds fans at the IWA’s Blackshear Family Arena. The Angels, who trailed during the early stages of the match, took control midway through the first set, and never really looked back, earning a 25-16, 25-18 win over the Red Knights. “(We were) a little sluggish,” St. Joe’s head coach Karen Davis said. “Sometimes, you just don’t know what it is. I don’t know if it was the crowd, or just the long weekend.” Whatever the problem was initially for the Angels, the Red Knights …

A talented mural artist can transform any dream into a reality.
Talent is an understatement when describing the mural work that Shannon O’Sullivan (nee Weiss) creates for a child’s room. O’Sullivan is no stranger to creativity as she got her start at her family’s business (Mandel’s Jewelry) in Ladue designing ads that were published in St. Louis Magazine. Her creative talent started well before she graduated from Saint Louis University with a degree in graphic arts, rather back in kindergarten when she won first place in an art contest. O’Sullivan adds: “It wasn’t until high school (Incarnate Word Academy Class of 1997) that I really became passionate about art.” Her passion for art won her an award when in high school for an abstract piece she created. One day she offered to do murals for her …
