Villa Wins Metro Title over Rival MICDS With 'Non' Goal, Goal

Villa gets a goal off a defender to win the game with less than two minutes to play.

The game between Villa Duchesne and MICDS played in rarified air had more than a classic finish. The teams played through more than 78 scoreless minutes before Villa broke through for the only goal in a 1-0 win over the host Rams. It was that close a game. And the game winner technically was scored by a Rams’ defender. Here’s what happened. Senior forward Hanna Benben inbounded her third corner kick of the second half. She played a perfect high arcing shot square on the door step of top notch goalkeeper Campbell Torchin. A mass of players came together at the net, the ball went in off a defender and the Metro championship ended up on Spoede Road at Villa Duchesne. Villa Shows No Love For Visiting Notre Dame In Valentines Evening Game

Saints blister the nets with nine three pointers, en-route to an easy 47-33 win.

It was Valentines Day all around the world, but the Villa Duchesne Saints basketball team showed no love for their opponents, the visiting Rebels of Notre Dame. The Saints scorers blistered the nets with eight-first half three pointers and ripped up the Rebels 47-33 in the second-to-last regular game of the season. They ended with nine three pointers. The Saints host Principia Thursday night on senior night. The Saints stormed out the gates leading 8-2 and had a commanding 18-9 first quarter lead and an even bigger halftime bulge of 29-9. The Saints are 15-7, the Rebels 6-16. Villa was expected to win this game. Ladue-Frontenac Athletes Continue To Sign

Burroughs, Villa athletes moving on to the next level.

Several area athletes signed letters of intent yesterday. Charlotte Martin, field hockey star at John Burroughs is headed to Northwestern University. Swimmer Madison Qualy inked with the University of Miami. At Villa Duchesne, Demi Wideman agreed to play field hockey at Miami of Ohio while multiple sport star Hanna Benben will be playing soccer for Saint Louis University. Patch will continue to report local signings as they come in.
