Ladue Newspaper Publisher Frank C. Bick Dead at Age 85

Built the St. Louis Suburban Journals into the nation's powerhouse of local news.

Frank C. Bick, age 85, long-time publisher of the St. Louis Suburban Journal newspapers passed away at his home in Ladue on July 18, 2012. Bick suffered a very serious stroke earlier in the week. Earlier this year, Ladue-Frontenac Patch Editor Jim Baer interviewed his former boss of 16 years in conjunction with an award he was presented for contributions to seniors programs. Newspapering has always been a highly charged medium in St. Louis. Probably no one has done it any better than Ladue’s octogenarian, 84-year-old Col. Frank C. Bick. Bick was the driving force behind the growth of the burgeoning Suburban Newspapers of Greater St. Louis for nearly three decades. Wells Fargo Advisors and St. Andrew's Foundation will honor remarkable seniors at a black tie gala in downtown St. Louis Nov. 6. Frank C. Bick of Ladue is one of those to be recognized as a remarkable senior citizen. Editor's note: Jim Baer was sports editor of the Suburban Journals from 1971 to 1987.
