Former Ladue & St. Clair Fire Chief Pleads Guilty to Federal Fraud and Tax Charges

Mail fraud carries a maximum penalty of 20 years and a fine of up to $250,000.

Information was provided by the IRS Criminal Investigation Department of the Justice Department of Eastern Missouri. Eric Hinson pled guilty to mail fraud and multiple tax evasion charges involving his misuse of approximately $593,236 of St. Clair Fire Protection District funds between January 2006 and September 2011. As a result of the federal investigation, Hinson resigned his positions as Chief at both the St. Clair Fire Protection District and the Ladue Fire Department. The St. Clair Fire Protection District (District) provides fire protection service for Franklin County, Missouri, and has four fire houses, 18 full-time fire fighters and between 25-50 volunteer fire fighters. The District is primarily funded by public funds, through …

Ladue Residents, Schools & Businesses Pleased With Their Own Fire/EMS Service

Quick response time; personal relationships worth a lot in this city of some 8,500.

Two years ago, EMS personnel quickly responded to a summer student in distress in the swimming pool at Burr Oak camp at John Burroughs School. Personnel made a very quick rescue, and the youngster recovered quickly. Another time, police, fire and EMS responded to a resident on Colonial Lane with an apparent heart attack. That person also survived, thanks to the professional and quick action of Ladue’s rescue team. These are just isolated examples of why Ladue residents value their own independent fire and EMS service and why they have never shown interest in joining forces with any other county fire departments. Much goes the same for St. Louis' inner-urban communities: Clayton, Brentwood, Maplewood, University City, Shrewsbury and …

Little old lady Ladue just hired a Fire Chief for $100K, plus a yesteryear comp/pension package. Is anyone thinking about combining these little Duke-dom Departments? We could have gotten him for half of $93k, which is what oh-so-similar Olivette FD was paying him, if we had just combined. The buy-it-now price for Olivette to find a new Chief has been jacked to over $100K, plus their version of a…   more ›

No doubt that many citizens of Ladue like the idea of having an independent fire and police. Many more don't even give the idea of change a thought. But when we are facing a multi-million dollar bond issue let's all consider whether it makes sense. It's kind of like the U.S. Navy building a fleet of battleships before WWII; for what mission? There are many brave and loyal public employees in the …   more ›

Asst. Chief Jeff Johnson Heads Ladue Fire Department, For Now

Johnson is a 16-year veteran of the department.

Ladue Assistant Fire Chief Jeff Johnson has taken over as head of the department after the departure of Ladue's former chief, Eric Hinson. Hinson abruptly resigned in late August and his last day was Friday. Hinson resigned in the wake of an investigation. Hinson had held two chief jobs concurrently — as Ladue fire chief, where he was appointed in July 2011, and as the St. Clair, MO, fire chief, where he had been hired in January 2011. He resigned from that post on Sept. 28, 2011, according to the St. Clair Missourian. Johnson, a 16-year-veteran of the Ladue Fire Department, was appointed assistant chief at the same time Hinson was named chief in July 2011. Johnson is also the department fire marshal and is a member of the Metropolitan …

Eric Hinson Named Ladue's New Fire Chief

Hinson replaces Ted Jury, who served in Ladue for 29 years.

Eric Hinson may be the only person in the state of Missouri to hold the title of fire chief in two different cities. Hinson was named fire chief for the City of Ladue at last week’s city council meeting, taking over the reins from Ted Jury, who retired after 29 years of service to the city overall, and moved on to be the chief in Brentwood. Hinson has served as Ladue’s assistant chief the past seven years. Jeff Johnson was elevated to assistant fire chief at the meeting. Johnson has been on the Ladue fire staff since 1996. Hinson serves in a dual capacity as St. Clair, MO's fire chief. In St. Clair, the staff is smaller in numbers and the territory to cover is much wide. The St. Clair Fire Protection District has a staff of 17 paid and 35 …
