Patch MVP Winter Week 3: Elliott Shevitz, Goaltender, Ladue Hockey

Sophomore netminder picked up his first varsity win, with 26 saves last week, in the Rams' 4-3 win over Priory.

Usually we ask upperclassmen their thoughts about college, but we're still interested in your thoughts about furthering your education. Have you thought at all about where you might want to go to college? I am actually already looking for colleges, but for lacrosse, not hockey! There are some colleges in which I'm interested, but at this time I'm not really sure exactly where I will be attending. Will you try to play hockey there (or any other sport)? Are will you be going to college as a regular student? Like I said, although hockey is my passion, I was fortunate enough to start varsity as a freshman in lacrosse. The Ladue lacrosse team was very successful and we were able to make our first ever Division 1 playoff appearance last year. …

Patch MVP Winter Week 3: Fans Can Now Vote For This Week's Athlete of the Week Award

Representatives from all five Ladue-Frontenac-Olivette-area high school's made this week's Athlete of the Week candidate list. Fans can vote for a winner through 5 p.m. Thursday.

We've scoured the stat sheets and news wires and found deserving Athlete of the Week candidates from all five local high schools, and now we've officially opened up the voting to let the fans tell us, who should get this week's honor. We'll keep the ballots open until 5 p.m. Thursday, and we encourage all fans to make sure they vote in this week's poll.  Here are this week's Patch MVP Athlete of the Week nominees:

Ladue Opens New Mid-States Hockey Season With Hard-Fought Loss To Ft. Zumwalt East

MANCHESTER -- After winning the Founders' Cup championship last year, which goes to the winners of the Mid-States Hockey Association's third-level playoffs, the Ladue High hockey team returned to the ice on Friday, to officially open its 2012-2013 season. And although the Rams played a dynamite final two periods at the Queeny Park Ice Rink against a talented, elite-level club from Ft. Zumwalt East High, Ladue couldn't overcome its rough start in the first seven minutes of the season and lost its season opener to the Lions, 6-3.   "It's a new season, and it's the first game, and we we're still trying to figure some things out," Ladue head coach Jon Hodgins said, after his Rams gave up three goals in the first seven minutes to fall behind 3-…
