Everyone in the district will have the ability to chime in either by attending meetings; emailing, faxing or writing the search firm.
In accordance with a strict timeline set by the Ladue School Board, a newly-hired superintendent will be in place sometime by the end of February. Working backwards, applications to fill the position vacated by Dr. Marsha Chappelow are due by January 23 and in a four hour meeting all legitimate candidates will be reviewed by members of the school board on February 5. Contrary to what some might have been thinking, the Ladue School board is conducting a throughly transparent search and seeking input from all parents, teachers, students and district stakeholders. There are mechanics in place for anyone to comment, even if they missed the public meeting at Ladue High Tuesday night, or the early morning meeting at the district office today…

Dr. Judy Sclair, the district's assistant superintendent for human resources will continue in her current role in addition to taking on Ladue's top administrative post.
The Ladue School Board, meeting in closed session Monday night, capped a day full of administrative staff maneuvers by naming an interim superintendent effective January 2, 2013. Dr. Judy Sclair, the district's assistant superintendent for human resources, will serve as Ladue's sole interim superintendent next semester. Sclair, along with Assistant Superintendent for Business and Finance Dr. Jason Buckner and Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning Dr. Donna Jahnke will rotate those duties for the remainder of 2012. In September, Dr. Marsha Chappelow announced her intent to retire as Superintendent at the end of the school year. In a news release sent out Friday night, the district announced it had accepted Chappelow's request …

Interim superintendent duties will alternate between assistant superintendents through the remainder of the calendar year.
After a meeting Monday between the president and the vice president of the Ladue Board of Education and senior district leadership, a new leadership structure will be announced sometime today to address the early departure of Superintendent Dr. Marsha Chappelow. Dr. Chappelow, who was set to retire at the end of the school year, announced she would take an early leave of absence effective Dec. 1. “The Board of Education did not make this decision lightly, but ultimately came to the conclusion that reaching this agreement was in the best interest of the district and will lead to a more efficient and productive transition process,” said Board President Jayne Langsam in a news release. Existing superintendent duties will alternate weekly …

Dr. Bridget Hermann will leave Ladue Horton Watkins High School at the end of the current academic year.
UPDATED Wednesday 9:15 a.m. When the Ladue School District announced the resignation of Horton Watkins High School Principal Dr. Bridget Hermann Monday night, administrators said Hermann was leaving at the end of the school year to pursue new opportunities in education and cited her desire for flexibility in location and lifestyle. But according to her letter of resignation to Superintendent Dr. Marsha Chappelow obtained by Patch, philosophical differences, and not a desire for new opportunities, appear to be behind the move. "My decision has not been made lightly; I love the students and community of Ladue Horton Watkins High School," Hermann wrote. "However, it has become increasingly apparent that my philosophy of education is very …

Dr. Chappelow dropped nearly everything to give thoughtful answers to Patch's questions.
The ink had hardly dried on the statement issued by Dr. Marsha Chappelow that she would retire as the Ladue School District Superintendent at the end of the school year. Patch wanted to know how she looked at the major hot-button issues: Patch.com: What do you consider to be the highlights of your time as superintendent. Dr. Marsha Chappelow: During my time as superintendent, I have had the opportunity of leading and being involved in the following initiatives. Clearly, I did none of these single handedly. However, the skills and experience I have, and for which I was selected as superintendent of Ladue Schools, have been useful in the success of these initiatives. Patch: What are the biggest challenges ahead for the district. Dr. …

The head of the Ladue School district announced her retirement, effective at the end of June.
The Ladue School District had its modest beginnings, starting in 1939. At that time, the district was simply a loosely formed group of elementary schools, those being Little Ladue (now Reed School), Conway Elementary, Wright School, Price School, Central School and later Spoede Elementary. Children past elementary school age pretty much had to fend for themselves, attending the private schools serving the community: Mary Institute, Country Day School, John Burroughs and Chaminade or attending one of the nearby public high schools: Clayton, University City, Kirkwood, Brentwood or Maplewood. It was not until 1951 that this growing community first offered classroom education to students Kindergarten through the 12th grade. Ladue Horton …

Spate of media accounts spurs these remarks.
Ladue School Board President Jayne Langsam reported that Ladue had a very successful home coming weekend, but had gotten considerable negative press concerning "the List" and bullying at Ladue High School. Dr. Marsha Chappelow, superintendent issued a statement concerning this ongoing issue. I’d like to take a few minutes to give you the status of the situation at the high school that has been receiving media attention… In the past, there have been student-created lists containing highly inappropriate comments about other students distributed at the high school. In the latest instance, some of the students responsible were identified and disciplined. Regrettably, in most instances, the students have been successful in remaining anonymous…
