2-nil victory is the 31st consecutive district title for Incarnate Word Academy.
In the blink of an eye, the MICDS soccer season has come to a conclusion. Incarnate Word broke away from a scoreless first half to edge the Rams on their home field 2-nil and won the district title Thursday. There will be no more practices; no more game plans to draw up this year for MICDS. Still, the Rams shall keep their heads held erect. Thirty other teams have had the same season-ending results against the powerful North County Red Knights. This is IWA's 31st consecutive district title. Quite an achievement. “We put the pressure there. I think its tough for anyone to come onto our field and play on our turf,” said IWA’s coach Erin Hesselbach. More photos on the Ladue-Frontenac Facebook page. Next for the Red Knights, they will rematch…

Red Knights dominate semifinals of district with a convincing 4-1 win.
Ladue started the soccer season with a win and ended with a loss, but there were lots of “W”s in between. Since records were kept accurately starting in the early 1990s, Ladue broke almost every record in the books. They tied most wins in a season with 17 and set many others. But it was Incarnate Word Academy’s day on their home field Tuesday in the semifinals of the Class 2, District soccer championships. IWA moves on to host MICDS for the title match Thursday, 4 p.m. at home. Bigger, stronger, faster, that was IWA over an inspired but outmanned Ladue squad. Sometimes, the Rams got pushed around like gag dolls. Elly Freesmeier was poetry in motion. She battled Ladue tooth and nail. Kelsey Murphy was a scoring machine, beating Ladue keeper…

Amber Jones got the solo goal. Rams face Incarnate Word on the Red Knight's Field Thursday for the district title.
Little did MICDS know, but when Amber Jones scored a first-half goal on a rebound from Caroline Militello, that would be the only score of the 1-nil win over a feisty bunch of Clayton Greyhounds in the semifinals of the Class 2, District tournament at Incarnate Word. It was a torturous hot day (for both teams); the grass was tall and scruffy; the Rams were pre-occupied with final exams and there were too many games in too few days. An illogical reasoning would do. More game photos on the Ladue-Frontenac Facebook page. “We didn’t play our best game. We won,” surmised coach Michael Black. The coach stayed around to scout the opponents for the title game, Thursday, 4 p.m. at IWA. The girls had enough soccer on a 90 degree day, and left. Turns…
2 goals for Kaley Nieters in the second half. Angels face either Webster or Nerinx in the finals Wednesday,
There are differences between St. Joe and Ursuline Academy soccer teams. For one, St. Joe does not have to play its freshman goal keeper; Ursuline does. Ursuline freshman keeper Jaime Spath was tested early and often and the Angels peppered the Bear nets for a relatively easy 6-2 district semifinal win. The Angels have a fine freshman themselves in Rosie Breheny, but they start with sophomore Kelsey Ponder who has more experience. The win sets up the Angels (15-2) against Webster Groves, 1-0 winner over Nerinx Hall. The Angels-Webster game will be played on the Angels' home turf Wednesday at 4 o’clock. Hot or cold, sunny or not, the Angels keep on rolling. Six different attackers scored in the home win. Kaley Nieters notched a key second-…

Vivettes win 1-0 to capture Class 2, District 5 Title.
The Mary Institute Country Day soccer team played 184 minutes between Monday and Wednesday and score 1 goal. The goal Monday against Villa Duchense well into the second sudden-death overtime propelled them to a win over Villa Duchesne and a match with Visitation Academy in the championships Wednesday at Westminster Christian Academy. Junior Abby Grimes solo goal at the 49:08 minute mark of the second half was the only score in the game. The Vivettes made it hold up for the Class 2, District 5 title. Now, the V’s go on to play the winner of Trinity-St. Charles in the regional round. First things first. Both goalkeepers, Campbell Torchin, senior from MICDS and freshman Grace Forthaus played brilliantly. A collision in the second half almost …

Freshman Klasey Medelberg finds the back of the net for only score of 104 minute game.
Mary Institute Country Day School and Villa Duchesne battled through 104.02 minutes of soccer in clearly what could be classified as one of the all-time greatest prep games ever played. Seven days ago, the Rams and Saints met for the Metro Conference championship, and Villa prevailed 1-0, scoring with a shade less than two minutes in an 80 minute match. This time, more than half way through the second sudden death overtime, freshman Klasey Medelberg found a tiny space to squeeze through and blasted a shot to the right of keeper Hanna Benben for a 1-nil victory, giving the Rams a place in the Class 2, District 5 championship game against Visitation Academy. The Vivettes won 1-nil over the host Westminster Christian Academy team in the early…
