Battle Of The Bigs: Westminster and MICDS In Girls' District Title Game Tonight

Rematch of game won by the Wildcats a year ago in Clayton.

The gauntlet has been thrown down. Once again, MICDS will have a chance to move on in the Class 4 state basketball tournament. And once again, the Westminster Christian Wildcats stand in the way. The two will clash tonight for the girl’s district title at MICDS, tipoff is 6 p.m. Plan to be there early. On February 25, 2011 at Clayton High,Westminster came from behind to win, 56-52 spoiling MICDS’ dreams of a state title. The Rams lost just twice last year, both times to Westminster. The first loss spoiled a 15-game win streak. Westminster won that game at home 47-41. In last year’s district championship game at Clayton, in which MICDS led at halftime by four, Kayla Armstrong led Westminster with 15 points; Delaney Hobbs had 18 for the Rams…

Area Girls Basketball Players Honored

Ladue's Lauren Maclin and MICDS' Delaney Hobbs named as conference player of the year.

The 2011 season was a memorable one for several area girls basketball teams. Ladue and MICDS each finished with 22-2 records while St. Joseph's Academy won the rugged MWAA White Division title and made it to the Class 5 final four in Columbia. With the team success, came individual recognition as several players were named to all-conference teams and two seniors were named Player of the Year in their respective leagues. MICDS senior Delaney Hobbs capped off her stellar high school career with her second consecutive Player of the Year award in the MWAA Red Conference. "Delaney was deserving of the award last year but I am even more proud of what she accomplished this season because of all the adversity she had to face," MICDS coach Scott …

MICDS Girls Sweep Burroughs Again

The Rams win for the eighth straight time against the Bombers, 47-31 Saturday night at Washington University.

The feeling for MICDS senior Delaney Hobbs was the same as it had been the previous seven times she had faced John Burroughs. For the eighth time in eight tries Hobbs was on the winning end of the rivalry game as MICDS defeated the Bombers 47-31 Saturday night at Washington University. "This was great not just for me but for the whole team," Hobbs said. "This has been a rivalry for a long time and every win against them is special." MICDS had won the previous meeting this season by an almost identical score (47-32). "The games were pretty similar, too," MICDS Coach Scott Small said. "It is always special when you beat Burroughs. I can't think of a four-year stretch like this where MICDS has won each game. "I think Burroughs may have won …

JBS Boys, MICDS Girls Continue Streaks

The Bomber boys win their sixth straight while Ram girls go to 14-0.

Foye Oluokun sent the John Burroughs' faithful into a frenzy with a soaring dunk in the final moments of the Bombers' 58-34 victory over MICDS before an overflow crowd Friday night at MICDS. It was an exclamation point on a wonderful performance by Burroughs, which won for the sixth time in a row. The loud "Foye, Foye, Foye, Foye" chant to the tune of the international soccer "Ole, Ole, Ole, Ole" chanted by the Burroughs' followers put a huge smile on the face of Oluokun. "It always makes me smile when they do that," said Oluokun, a sophomore. "That was my first dunk in a game and that is another reason I was so excited. I think it was all adrenaline. It was easier than I thought it would be." The same could be said of the game as MICDS …

Perfection at 11-0

MICDS Rolls Past Visiting Triad, 48-37.

The MICDS girls basketball team did some flirting last night at home. Only, there were no male counterparts around the gym. The Lady Rams flirted with the Triad Knights; they flirted with the scorebook and they almost flirted with some unplanned disaster. However, they showed the gumption of an undefeated team (which they are) at 11-0 and muscled up to a 48-39 win over the visiting Illinoisans. Probably the player who stood the tallest is one of the shortest, freshman guard Emily Kyman. Still two years away from her drivers license, Kyman, scored 15 points and hit a clutch layup to close out the third quarter as the clock showed all zeros. The lead inched to 37-32 at the three quarter mark. "I have to keep reminding myself she (Emily) is a…

MICDS Remains Perfect WIth Win Over Borgia

Delaney Hobbs returns and scores career point 1,000 in 49-39 victory.

Delaney Hobbs scored her 1,000th career point and the MICDS girls basketball team won their fifth game in a row to start the season with a 49-39 win over St. Francis Borgia Friday night at MICDS. Hobbs was playing her first game of the season after tearing her ACL in a summer league game June 29. The senior entered the game late in the first quarter and hit a regulation field goal in the second quarter and followed with a 3-pointer which gave her the milestone. "I didn't know it when it happened but I was glad it was a 3-pointer," Hobbs said. "It was just so good to be out there again. I missed all of volleyball season and I was not about to miss my senior year of basketball." Hobbs came back a month and a half ahead of schedule and played…
