Burroughs doubles up rival MICDS for 8-4 win. Rematch Sunday at Busch.
When Jackson Myer hit a slow roller for an out in the home half of the seventh for MICDS at John Burroughs Monday, that brought back memories for the Burroughs side. Myer cranked a walk-off homer at Shaw Park last May to defeat their arch rivals the Bombers for the district crown. Myer has been injured, and playing sparingly this season. “We had some evens to get,” said Bomber second-baseman Nathan Adams who is headed to Yale to play infield next season. “We didn’t forget about that one at all,” he said. Burroughs had a seven run uprising in the 5th and 6th innings to defeat their nemesis the Rams, 8-4. It was sweet revenge, but short lived. Sunday, the duo clash at Busch Stadium at 1 p.m. They have memories of that too. Last year’s game …

The Bombers fell to Logan-Rogersville 21-14 Saturday in the Class 3 state championship game at the Edward Jones Dome.
It was the Nightmare on North Broadway the Sequel for the John Burroughs football team. The Bombers lost in the final seconds of the 2010 Class 3 state championship game to Richmond 21-20 at the Edward Jones Dome. John Burroughs, despite having just eight seniors, earned a trip back to the state title game this fall and the final results were eerily similar. The Bombers had a 14-13 lead until the final two minutes when Wildcat quarterback Evan Gruener scored on a 31-yard run on a quarterback keeper. But the never say die Bombers looked like they were going to make some drama themselves as Davie Holmes hit Peter Schnuck for a 40-yard pass, Foye Oluokun for a 13-yarder and Zeke Elliott for a 12-yarder. The Bombers were on the Logan-…

The Bombers will play Logan-Rogersville for the Class 3 title Saturday at 3:15 at the Edward Jones Dome.
The holiday season has started early this year in Rogersville, Mo. The Logan-Rogersville football team has made it to the state championship game for the first time in school history. The Wildcats will play John Burroughs Saturday at 3:15 for the Class 3 championship at the Edward Jones Dome. "The city is extremely excited," Logan-Rogersville coach Doug Smith said. "It is like we are celebrating Christmas early." This is certainly unchartered territory for the school located near Springfield. "Four years ago was the first time we were in the state playoffs," Smith said. "The last three years we have been knocked out by Cassville in the quarterfinals. One of those games was decided by one point and Cassville went on to win state two of …

Bombers Face Unbeaten Osage In Semifinals Next Saturday at home.
Ste. Genevieve...In boxing vernacular, John Burroughs' football game plan was set to knock out host Ste. Genevieve early in the Class 3 Missouri State quarterfinals. The Bombers did so by routing the Dragons, 49-7, on Saturday. The Bombers led by a 42-0 score at halftime, which meant the mercy rule was in effect for the final 24 minutes. John Burroughs (12-1), winner of 10 straight games, which includes defeating Ste. Genevieve twice during the winning streak, hosts Osage (12-0) in the state semifinals at 1:30 p.m. on Nov. 19. Osage routed North Calloway, 63-21, on Saturday to advance to the next round. "To come into a place like this and do that really helps," said Gus Frerotte, John Burroughs' first-year coach. "To come into this place …

In a day when nothing could go wrong, Burroughs Demolishes Confluence Prep, 73-0.
Confluence Prep was no match for the Burroughs Bombers by the time they got off the bus. Early in the game, first-year coach Gus Frerotte cleared his bench as not to ring up 100 or more points against the out-matched opponents. Burroughs is 7-1, with its only loss to rival MICDS, 45-20. The rest of the games have been well in control. The Bombers scored 45 first quarter points, then put up seven in the second quarter, seven in the third quarter and 14 in the final stanza. Henry Rogers opened the game by scoring on a fumble recovery and then the Bombers picked up the first of two safeties. Ezekiel Elliott rushed for TDs of 4, 61 and 50. He has 22 for the season. Quarterback Davey Holmes has now thrown for 1,078 yards and 18 TDs. Steven …

Bombers QB Davey Holmes strikes for 4 TDs in route of the Dragons
Ste. Genevieve was the first team to get on the board with a 15 yard run by Jacob Billings, but then Burroughs recorded 21 unanswered points to route visiting St. Gen 41-21 on a glorious October day. Quarterback Davey Holmes has reached full season form with TD strikes of 5 yards to Nathan Adams, a 3 yard pass to Steve Trulaske, a four yarder to Peter Schnuck and a late fourth-quarter 21 yard pass to Adams. Holmes was 14 of 21 passing for 153 yards and had just one interception. Zeke Holmes scored the initial Bomber TD on a three yard run with 8:45 on the clock in the first quarter, tying the game with the extra point, seven-all. Foye Oluokun scooped up a fumble recover in the first quarter racing 83 yards for six. The Bombers are 5-1 on …
