Talented Taylor Robinson Not Yet Ready to Crack Ladue's Starting 5

Starting five run away in the second half to defeat Jennings 66-47. Robinson gets 10 points in less than 15 minutes of playing time.

On a 9-4 Ladue basketball team; one that captured the holiday title of the Ritenour tournament, coach Cord Dockery has a bit of a tempest in a tea pot. He’s not about to give away starting jobs on a team that is meshing so well. At the same time, he has a senior, 6-foot-3 Taylor Robinson, with a scholarship agreement in her hip pocket to Temple University, just becoming eligible for second semester play. Robinson had to take care of personal business and get her grades in order to play the second half of the season. Monday, the Rams visit the other Rams on Warson Road, the mighty MICDS team and Doc knows he will need every weapon in his arsenal to win. While Robinson was taking sips of water and watching from the pines; senior Elizabeth …

Ladue Knocks Off Previously Unbeaten No. 8 Ritenour To Win Holiday Tournament Championship

Senior Elizabeth Greenberg came up huge for Ladue by making 13 of 16 free throws, including seven in the final minute of a 52-44 Ram victory over the Huskies.

OVERLAND -- If there’s one thing Ladue girls basketball coach Cord Dockery is certain of through the first half of the season when it come to his team, is that the Rams will always play up or down to their competition. Two weeks ago, Ladue was on a --game winning streak, but still managed to play one of its worst games of the season in a loss to 1-5 Notre Dame. But on other occasions against much better competition, the Rams have played extremely well and brought home wins against teams like Summit, Whitfield, Parkway West and Confluence. That trend continued on Friday afternoon in the championship game of the newly-minted Ritenour Holiday Tournament, as Ladue delivered a superb performance from start to finish, to claim a 52-44 tournament…

Crunch Time Defensive Plays, Jump Shot By McNichols Lift Ladue Past DuBourg In Tourney Semifinal At Ritenour

Rams will play host school in championship final, after getting past DuBourg in hard-fought early afternoon tussle.

OVERLAND -- For the first 30 minutes of Thursday's Ritenour Holiday Tournament game against Bishop DuBourg, Ladue High girls basketball coach Cord Dockery tried just about every trick in the book to get his Rams to dig in and play defense like he knew they could. Dockery called different defenses; he called several timeouts to set up the defensive possession like he wanted; he even played some unusual lineup combinations to hopefully get the Rams to dig in. In the final two minutes, the coach finally found a strategy that would work -- he challenged his crew to show what kind of guts they had. Dockery must have yelled the phrase "it's gut-check time" 20 or 30 times (probably wasn't really that many), but the point was clear, the coach …

Late Rally Falls Short, As Ladue Suffers Girls Hoops Loss To Notre Dame

Sophomores Cate Meyer and Kaitlynn Walker combined for 27 points and several big buckets for the Rams, but it wasn't enough to overcome Notre Dame's red-hot shooting from three-point land.

After losing star center Taylor Robinson at the beginning of December for an issue head coach Cord Dockery described as "personal time", the Ladue High girls basketball team has had to re-work its strategy and philosophy the last few weeks, at what for most teams would be the worst possible time -- right smack dab in the middle of the season. And with no definite idea when to expect the return of Robinson, a 6-foot-3 Temple University recruit who averaged 20 points and nine rebounds a game last season, Ladue has had only a few practices and even fewer games to try to figure out just how to play without her. Last week, it seemed like the Rams might've figured some things out, as they picked up two big wins over John Burroughs and Parkway …

Ladue Girls Hoops Looking to Make Run at First Ever District Title

With top scorer and D-1 recruit Taylor Robinson back, Rams expect big season on the hardwood.

Along the back halls of Ladue High School's beautifully-remodeled Neilsen Gymnasium, the rafters are filled with banners recognizing the accomplishments of all the Rams' sports teams throughout the years. Conspicuously absent from the glorious lore of all-time Ladue sports is any mention of the girls basketball team ever winning districts and advancing into the state playoffs. That's because it's never happened. Ever. But this season, with a roster that features top college prospect Taylor Robinson at center and five other returning seniors, many local hoops experts believe this is the year the Ladue girls finally grab their first district championship. "Well, that's one of the goals," head coach Cord Dockery said. "With six seniors coming…

Reed School Fourth Graders Help Bring Home A Victory

Ladue runs all over Summit 59-43 for 15th win of the season.

There’s a very good reason why Reed School fourth grade teacher Karla Rigdon skipped grading papers and spent the evening cheering for the Ladue High Rams’ basketball team. A real simple reason for certain. Seems that star guard senior Kate Holloway is a Cadet teacher in her class. Ladue seniors get a chance to go into the classroom to see if a future in teaching might suit them. Frankly, Holloway adores her grade schoolers quite a bit. She put on the chalk board a schedule of home games in the new year. The students voted to attend Monday night’s game with the Summit Falcons. Armed with Skittles, ropes, Twix, Laughy Taffy, bags of popcorn and canned soda, 15 fourth graders sat in the front rows of the bleachers and cheered heartily for No…

Lizzie Greenberg Leads Ladue to 47-45 Win Over Visiting Parkway Central Colts

Christie Bergesh has 18 for Central. Rams hold on for two-point win.

Over the holiday break, the Ladue girls’ basketball team was a player short. Junior Lizzie Greenberg was vacationing in sunny Mexico with her family. Trip over, the 5-foot-10 forward has returned with determination and purpose. She played her heart out in a game the Rams eeked out over Parkway Central Tuesday night at home, 47-45. Greenberg led Ladue with 14 big points, most coming after the break. The game almost ended in a controversial dispute. With 1.3 left on the game clock, the referee under the basket handed the ball to Greenberg who dropped in the first of two free throws. Two ref’s were conferring at mid-court and they tried to wave off the free throw. After a long dispute, they said the first attempt counted. Greenberg missed the…

Ladue Girls Repeat Hancock Invitational Championship

The Rams defeated DuBourg 44-37 in the title game Thursday afternoon.

The Ladue girls basketball team earned little respect by being seeded third in the eight-team Hancock Invitational. The Rams were the defending champion but were seeded behind DuBourg and St. Pius. Ladue disposed of both of those teams, handling St. Pius 54-31 in the semifinals and DuBourg 44-37 in the championship game Thursday afternoon. "We really didn't care where we were seeded," Ladue coach Cord Dockery said. "You have no control over that. We just wanted to play three good games." The first game, a 48-39 win over Affton, may not have been classified as a good win as the Rams won despite some sloppy play. But the final two games over second-seeded St. Pius and top-seeded DuBourg were indeed good ones. "We were late for the first game…

Area Girls Basketball Players Honored

Ladue's Lauren Maclin and MICDS' Delaney Hobbs named as conference player of the year.

The 2011 season was a memorable one for several area girls basketball teams. Ladue and MICDS each finished with 22-2 records while St. Joseph's Academy won the rugged MWAA White Division title and made it to the Class 5 final four in Columbia. With the team success, came individual recognition as several players were named to all-conference teams and two seniors were named Player of the Year in their respective leagues. MICDS senior Delaney Hobbs capped off her stellar high school career with her second consecutive Player of the Year award in the MWAA Red Conference. "Delaney was deserving of the award last year but I am even more proud of what she accomplished this season because of all the adversity she had to face," MICDS coach Scott …

22-1 Lady Rams Face Nerinx in Districts

Little Time Wasted in 56-23 Win over Host University City.

The Lady Rams from Ladue wasted precious little time tramping host University City 56-23 to close out the regular portion of the season. The Rams raced off to the first 21 points of the game and held a commanding 33-8 halftime lead. They played a shortened second half and Cord Dockery cleared his bench by early in the fourth quarter. "We're ready for Nerinx. They go six foot three, we go six foot three," said the coach. Ladue, experiencing its finest season in school history will meet Nerinx in the first round of Districts at Webster Groves Tuesday. The winner advances to meet the Angels of St. Joe's the top-ranked team in the state. Taylor Robinson led the Rams with 17 points, junior guard Kate Holloway had 13 points and Lauren Maclin 10…
