Ladue Speech, Debate, Forensic Students Qualify for State, National Competition

First-year coach Molly Beck has students revved up and ready to go.

Not all points at Ladue-Horton Watkins High School are scored by athletes, music or drama students. The students in the speech, debate and forensic’s after-school program are bringing great distinction to the school as well. A whole host of students have advanced to state and national competition under the watchful eye of first-year teacher/coach Molly Beck. Beck is simply amazed at the performances of her highly-motivated students. This weekend in Columbia (April 20-21) three students will participate in speech and debate competition at the Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) headquarters in Columbia. Beck will escort seniors Sarah Allen, Sarah Fee and Sayli Sant to this competition. These three students qualified …

The 37th Annual Swim Championships To Be Decided Later Today

Springfield Glendale, Columbia Rock Bridge look to dominate the top spots.

The champions of the 37th annual swim championships will be determined starting today at 3 p.m. at the Rec Plex in St. Peters. A new champion will be crowned. It is not likely the girls of Parkway West will repeat this time around. No official points are kept in this wall to wall action semifinals. Steve Boyce of Springfield Glendale is keeping his own unofficial tally. “I believe its us or Columbia Rock Bridge,” he said. Any hopes of Villa Duchesne jumping from a tie for sixth last year faded in the last event of the night. In explicably, the swimming Saints faded badly in the final 400 freestyle relay, something they had dominated all year long. They finished in ninth place and one place out of the championship field. They could set a …

Killer of Ladue Student in South Carolina Wants Conviction Thrown Out

Jerry Buck Inman, 40, claims key witness was intimidated by South Carolina prosecutor.

The Associated Press is reporting that a convicted man on death row in South Carolina for the killing of Ladue student Tiffany Souers at Clemson University in May, 2006 wants his sentence thrown out. He is appealing to the South Carolina Supreme Court to throw out his sentence  because he claims prosecutors intimidated one of his key witnesses. Lawyers for Jerry Buck Inman, 40 will ask the state Supreme Court on Wednesday to toss out his guilty plea and death sentence. Police in Clemson, S.C. said Inman broke into Soeur’s apartment near the campus and raped and strangled her to death. The engineering student was discovered by her apartment roommate. The Associated Press is reporting that much of Inman’s appeal is centered around statements…

Blue Springs Ends St. Joe's Hopes For State Title

Wildcats whip Angels 61-43 Sending them to Consolation Game.

Columbia, Mo...The 3-point shot has been a big part of the St. Joseph's Academy offensive arsenal all season. The Angels shot 37 percent for the season, converting 153 treys, 81 of them by Maddie Stock. But the long range shot was missing Friday against Blue Springs in the Class 5 semifinals at the Mizzou Arena in Columbia. The Angels did not make one until the final three minutes of the game as the Wildcats prevailed 61-43. Sydney Stipanovich was the prime offensive option for the Angels with the lack of outside shooting. She was very effective when she was on the court. The problem was she was not on the court often. The 6-foot-3 junior scored eight of the 10 Angel points in the first quarter. She was held to one in the second quarter …
