Drive Sober, Or Get Pulled Over in Olivette

Olivette Police Department cracking down on Impaired Drivers Aug. 17 to Sept. 3.

Information was provided by Rick Knox, chief of police for the City of Olivette. The sobering fact is that impaired driving contributes to nearly 30 percent of all Missouri traffic fatalities. In 2011, 220 people were killed and 902 seriously injured in crashes involving an impaired driver; that’s why the Olivette Police Department will join other Missouri law enforcement agencies to crack down on drunk driving Aug. 17 - Sept. 3. Olivette police will participate in statewide sobriety checkpoints and DWI saturation patrols enforcing Missouri’s DWI laws and keeping impaired drivers off the road. Consequences of drunk driving include jail time, loss of their driver licenses, or being sentenced to use ignition interlocks. Insurance rates go up…

To hell with the constitution, eh Rick? This is an absolute joke and just another example of the militarization of police and the reduction of freedoms that seems to be growing each year. I have zero respect for any police department and its officers that participate in these checkpoints.   more ›

The Baer Facts

Time for Olivette to Modernize its Public Safety Facilities

Propositions "S" and "P" will provide for a new administrative center; a new fire house and additions to the Parks. Vote is August 7

On August 7, Olivette residents will be asked to decide the future of the city by voting either for/or against two major propositions, Prop S for Public Safety and Prop P for Parks. Both initiatives total a little over $12 million dollars. Currently, Olivette has absolutely no bond indebtedness. Olivette pretty much has two distinct constituencies. First, there are the 7,500 residents who have called it home now and even before the 1950s. The second group is comprised of the public servants who provide for the first group. That would be police, fire, administrative staff; court staff, public works and the parks department. Some 75 or so career employees fall into that category. In the year 2000, I ran for public office in Olivette. I was …

Bullroar... This is a chance for Olivette to ditch its independent fire service, saving MILLIONS of dollars in future expenses. If being a fireman is such a drag in Olivette, why do the firemen stay around? Because the pay and especially the benefits are huge. And the risk to life and limb are really not that high... Job security? You betcha. Olivette, Ladue, Clayton, Overland, etc should combine…   more ›

Olivette Police to Conduct Sobriety Checkpoints, Now Through November

This continues the city-wide effort to increase the enforcement of Missouri’s DWI laws.

On average, one person is killed in a drunk driving related accident every 50 minutes in the United States. DWI checkpoints are aimed at taking intoxicated or impaired drivers off the roadways in order to prevent traffic accidents, keep roads safe and save lives. The checkpoints involve Olivette police officers briefly stopping traffic for the purpose of checking for impaired drivers. Those in compliance with the law will be allowed to proceed after a short delay, and intoxicated drivers will be arrested. "While citizens may be delayed for a short period of time, these checkpoints have been proven highly successful in getting intoxicated drivers off the streets,” said Chief Rick Knox, Olivette Police Department. “Should you come upon one …
