At same time, Fire Department is closer to finding a project manager for new construction.
Not since the 1990s has the Ladue Police had a target range to sharpen and maintain their shooting skills. Chief Rich Wooten took care of that by putting an upgrade into the City of Ladue Capital budget. The city council approved the purchase of target retrieval system with Action Target for $24,265.00. The Ladue Police have a range in the basement level of their building at the city hall complex. This range is 25 yards in length and provides the proper and safe facility so the officers can maintain and upgrade their side arms shooting skills. “Our officers shoot at targets at different distances,” said Ladue’s chief Rich Wooten. Action Target was the only company who meet the requirements and were the only bidder for the project. Roads, …

Police Chief Rich Wooten has a close eye on the situation.
Ladue Police Chief Rich Wooten has noticed a recent uptick in crimes on Willow Hill Road in Ladue. He is unable, however to determine if that this has to do with any pre-planning on the part of criminals, or is just unusual circumstances. A week ago, on Wednesday, both early in the morning and late at night two homes were entered by burglars. In both cases, family members found the signs of break in after checking for relatives who were out of town. In one case, a laptop was stolen, and dropped as three suspects fled the neighborhood from patrolling officers. In the other case, nothing seemed to be stolen. The first case happened when a son was checking on his father’s house while he was out of town. In another case, a mom was checking on …

Break-ins of unlocked vehicles account for 80 percent of the activity in the annual report.
There’s pretty good news with Ladue’s annual crime report. Going inside the numbers, Chief Rich Wooten told the Ladue City Council that overall, crime had been reduced 2.2 percent during the 2012 calendar year. The good news is, Ladue police have cleared about 70 percent of the cases on their docket, but have recovered only about 7 percent of items stolen from homes and businesses. These days, many stolen items are sold on the internet through sources such as Craigslist. Be sure, Ladue police are scanning those offers daily. Stealing from unlocked vehicles remains Ladue’s No. 1 annual crime. That accounts for about 80 percent of what goes reported. Chief Wooten has worked tirelessly to get citizens to lock up their unattended vehicles. …

That idea was among a number that are on the table as school district officials discuss how to beef up security at district buildings. A consulting firm may be engaged to look at the district's overall planning.
The Ladue School Board continued its dialogue on school safety at the regular monthly district workshop meeting, and among the ideas discussed was putting police sub-stations in schools. Rich Wooten, Ladue’s chief of police, was among those at the workshop meeting; he said the idea of sub-stations might work. The Ladue district is also considering hiring a security consulting firm. Fees would range anyway from $12,000 to $15,000 for one year of service. On Jan. 31, Jason Buckner of the district and five other district employees attended a county school safety meeting for law enforcement. Buckner reviewed the highlights of the meeting with the school board members. These were some of the highlights of the discussion: The Ladue district is …

There are so many do's and don't to make your home safe from invaders.
Like us on the Ladue-Frontenac Facebook page. Recently in Ladue some homeowners have been victims of burglaries in the areas of Old Warson Road, along south Price Road and south Warson Road. Actually, these have not been out of the ordinary. Ladue had 21 residential burglaries in 2012 the same as 2011. In reality, theft from retail businesses (shoplifting) remains the No. 1 crime in Ladue statistically year in and year out. Ladue’s police chief Rich Wooten believes an ounce of prevention can be better than a pound of cure. “If a burglar truly wants to break into your home, he’s going to be able to do that.” Burglars are opportunists Wooten says home burglars are opportunists. They often evaluate your home based on their observations …
