Senior guard knocked down two huge shots in the final minute of regulation to bring Bombers back from seven points down, in eventual 50-46 overtime win over Pattonville.
CREVE COEUR -- With just over one minute left in the fourth quarter of Saturday’s Chaminade Christmas Tournament championship game against Pattonville, John Burroughs senior Trevor Bain had made just one shot. He’d only taken two shots the entire game at that point, and had spent most of the night helping set up the Bomber offense, while also playing superb defense against the Pirates litany of ultra-quick guards. But with his team down by seven points, and so close to possibly suffering their first loss of the season, Bain stepped up and knocked down two clutch long range shots that helped Burroughs force overtime. CREVE COEUR -- The John Burroughs boys basketball team earned a trip to the 42nd Annual Chaminade Christmas Tournament championship game later today, thanks to a truly scintillating 75-49 win in the final game of pool play over Cardinal Ritter. The Bombers, who came into the event the overall No. 1 seed, won both games it played in Pool A and will now face the winner of Pool B, Pattonville High in the Chaminade tourney championship game on Saturday. Senior Foye Oluokun had a spectacular night for Burroughs, scoring a game-high 25 points and dishing out eight assists, as the Bombers jumped out early on Ritter and never looked back. Bombers stay unbeaten by holding Red Devils to 19 points in final two quarters of 53-48 come-from-behind victory in first round of Chaminade Tournament.
CREVE COEUR -- For the first two quarters of Wednesday’s Chaminade Christmas Tournament opener between the host Red Devils and visiting John Burroughs, the visitors looked like maybe they’d eaten too much turkey and dressing during their holiday dinners the night before. The Bombers were slow on defense, late on close-outs, and flat ineffective as rebounders.
