High School Hockey Roundup: MICDS, Ladue Might Make Wick Cup Playoffs, JBS Will Play In Founder's Cup Bracket

MICDS and Ladue will meet in huge Monday night matchup at Queeny Park, while Burroughs won't play until Friday, when it meets Ft. Zumwalt South at the Brentwood Ice Arena.

The home stretch of the Mid-States Hockey Association regular season is definitely upon us. And with just over two weeks left until the start of the playoffs, only a few of the area's near 50 hockey-playing clubs know for sure which post-season tournament they're going to be in. John Burroughs is one of those clubs. The Bombers, 4-14 with just three games left on the schedule, already know no matter how they close out the regular season, that they'll be playing in the Founder's Cup playoffs with 12-15 other developing club hockey programs. JBS was 4-17 last year, and hoped to improve their record this year, and maybe earn a berth in the next level up Wickenheiser Cup (Wick Cup) playoffs. Unfortunately, that's not going to happen this year…

High School Hockey Season Enters Final Month With Playoffs Looming In February

Ladue, MICDS, and John Burroughs schoolboy hockey clubs shoot for second half winning performances.

The 2012-2013 high school hockey season will hit its home stretch as soon as the calendar hits January, which will mark the beginning of the final month of the regular season. The three levels of playoffs all begin in February, so that means the 40 or so St. Louis area teams that compete in the Mid-States Club Hockey Association have just one month left to prove they deserve a spot in one of the top postseason tournaments -- either the elite Challenge Cup or the Wickenheiser Cup. For those not in the know, the Mid-States Hockey playoffs work a little differently than most other high school sports postseason tournaments. The way it works is like this: the absolute best 16 teams in the area all earn an invite into the Challenge Cup …

Patch High School Hockey Roundup: Local Teams Looking To Heat Up As Holiday Break Approaches

Mid-States Central Division rivals MICDS, Ladue, and John Burroughs are nearing the midway point of the season, and need to get pick up more wins if they're going to earn a spot in either the Challenge or Wickenheiser Cup playoffs.

With games just about every Friday and Saturday night, (and sometimes late at night), the high school hockey season has just about reached its midway point, with the three local teams enjoying varying amounts of success. Regardless of the start, it's how teams finish that will determine which of the three levels of playoffs they might qualify for when the time comes in February. And though getting invited and winning any postseason tournament is always an honor, every player on the MICDS, Ladue, and John Burroughs squads this year is hoping their team will earn a berth in either the Challenge Cup or Wickenheiser Cup playoffs. Last year, Ladue won the third-level playoff tournament (called the Founder's Cup), but was on a pace to make the …

MICDS Falters In Mid-States Hockey Opener Against Chaminade

Chaminade sophomore Trey Dodd had three goals and an assist, as Red Devils romp over Rams 12-2.

MANCHESTER -- For the MICDS hockey team, opening the 2012-2013 season against one of the area's best teams, nearby rival Chaminade Prep, has a certain upside, but also comes with a potentially tremendous downside. On the positive end, the Rams get to gauge exactly where they stand as a club in their first game of the season, in a matchup against a Chaminade team many believe could contend for the Mid-States Hockey Association Challenge Cup title at the end of the year. The problem there though, is if MICDS isn't quite ready for a matchup against Chaminade, then the Rams could be in for a long night against an elite-level club like the Red Devils. And unfortunately for MICDS, Saturday night's season-opening meeting turned out to be the …
